Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for a health care assistant on the neonatal unit.You will work under the supervision of a trained nurse and will be supported in your role as a HCA.
You will work as part of a team with the Multidisciplinary team within Neonatal and Maternity services to ensure high standards of quality care provision on the Neonatal Unit.If you have a passion for neonates and their families, are a good team player then please contact us.
Main duties of the job You will provide nursing care to infantsYou will operate medical devices required for the care of the infantsYou will assess the infant's condition and perform vital signs observationsYou will document and report findings and implement changes in care as instructedYou will perform the following clinical procedures Monitor infants vital signs with appropriate deviceCollect samples of urine, stool and blood and skin swabs according to local practicePerform blood sugar monitoring according to local practiceSupported to insert, use and remove gastric feeding tubes as requiredInitiate basic life support when necessaryProvide wholistic support to the infant and their family ( nutritional/elimination needs, hygiene)Support the mother's choice of feeding eg Breast/bottleUphold infection control and prevention standards About us The Neonatal Unit at The Princess Royal Hospital is a NNU and consists of 22 cots (2 ITU, 4 HDU and 16 SC).

We have a dedicated community team who follows the baby's journey from discharge to HELP parents and family within the community.We have achieved stage 1 BFI accreditation and is currently working towards achieving stage 2.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential GCSE Mathematics and English Desirable NVQ level 3 (Health and/or Child care based).
Experience/Skills Essential Working with and caring for babies and families Experience of using hospital patient record system.
Experience of working in an acute hospital setting.
Experience of providing high quality care Desirable Previous experience in a neonatal unit/maternity.
