Waste is a huge issue globally, and reducing waste to landfill is something businesses and governments need to tackle head-on. That's why Allen & York are excited to be partnering with a leading provider of waste management solutions as they look to recruit a Head of Sustainability to join their business. With a focus on recovering waste products to produce secondary materials, converting waste to energy, or full closed-loop recycling, my client works closely with its customers to extend the lifecycle of resources.
Following a restructure, this role has been created and will report to the Chief Commercial Officer. The focus will be on ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and working with departments internally to ensure they are aware of the implications and develop a regulatory development roadmap for each part of the business. As such, you'll have a good grasp of the current regulatory landscape, in particular for the UK and forecasted EU regulations, ideally within the waste sector.
A large part of this role is customer-focused, producing carbon reporting frameworks, positioning sustainability to customers through the effective production of bids, and ensuring the accounts are well managed.
An aspect of the role is to develop a programme of Life Cycle Assessments (LCA's). If you have experience of LCA's, that will be desirable but it's not essential. Either way, you will work with the Commercial Division to create a compelling proposition of these assessments, so an idea of how to frame this will be beneficial.
You'll hold a relevant degree combined with experience in a management role, with experience in the sustainability sector and ideally the waste sector, and an understanding of resource recovery practices. In addition, you'll have strong commercial acumen, have managed a P&L previously, and be experienced at managing supply chain partners.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious, action-oriented individual to work closely with different departments internally to embed sustainability within the business and ensure that you work closely with clients and customers to maximize opportunities.
With sites across the UK and Ireland and a willingness to travel to these sites, we can be relatively flexible regarding location. As long as you can access major transport links and you're comfortable being out and about, that's the more important thing.
