Description Your new role Here at Hitachi Rail, we have a unique and exciting opportunity for Head of Routine Test and Commissioning based in Newton Aycliffe with some travel to other sites. This role heads up the Routine Test and Commissioning function for the UK Vehicles Business as part of the senior leadership team. Championing safe working practices within the test areas and wider commissioning locations, collective responsibility for delivery of UK RS and Operational KPIs. Providing leadership within own areas and across the portfolio and supporting stakeholder management, sales, and external relationships.
Specifically, you will be responsible for the following deliverables:
Routine Test and Commissioning Responsibilities Accountable for the UK Routine Test and Commissioning team's safe working practices. (Safety)Accountable for the UK Routine Test and Commissioning team's performance in terms of product and process quality. (Quality)Accountable for the UK Routine Test and Commissioning team's performance in terms of product and process train delivery and customer acceptance. (Delivery)Responsible for ensuring delivery of the UK Routine Test and Commissioning team's financial objectives. (Cost)Ensure robust systems and processes are deployed in line with contractual MSA requirements.Develop, maintain, and deliver a UK Vehicles Business Routine Test and Commissioning strategy that operates with the other UK Manufacturing and Delivery functions to support and deliver the UK Rail business plan.Accountable for the Routine Test and Commissioning team's OPEX / CAPEX Budgets.Ensure the Routine Test and Commissioning team works closely with internal stakeholders in bids, projects, procurement, design, engineering, production, test service, and delivery to ensure we build to meet the standards.Ensure the train is tested and commissioned to be reliable and safe while in operation in line with Rail and Industry standards.Proactively and constructively challenge practices and assumptions where there are opportunities to improve safety, improve quality and/or reduce waste.Champion and develop technical excellence across the Routine Test & Commissioning team.Integrate and lead the UK Routine Test & Commissioning team, providing direction, mentoring, and coaching to staff.Ensure the UK Routine Test and Commissioning team has sufficient expertise in all technical areas and execute plans to maintain capability as demand changes over time. This includes developing and maintaining flexible and value-for-money arrangements with skilled and experienced service suppliers to provide support when required.Build strong relationships with other Manufacturing Delivery functions (i.e., design, materials, and manufacturing) to support efficient and timely collaboration when their help is required to sell trains.Identify, share, and manage risks associated with the Routine Test & Commissioning team.Leadership Provide leadership to the team to ensure the effective delivery of company-level goals.Coach and mentor the team, responsible for performance management and development of a strong functional group of Managers and Engineers.Drive development of skills to support effective succession planning.Monitor and encourage the personal development of team members.Ensure strong relationships are developed and maintained with colleagues in Japan and Italy.About you Management experience within rolling stock environments in the UK.Excellent experience of relationship management with internal and external diverse and multi-cultural stakeholders.Significant experience of developing and leading teams to a high level of individual and team performance.Flexible and forward-thinking, able to lead and operate effectively in a period of organisational change.Ability to travel internationally as required.Experience of interfacing with clients and development teams on a management level, resolving queries and issues in a pragmatic, logical manner.Experienced in all phases of a project, from bid through design, development, integration, test acceptance, delivery, and operational development.Qualifications Degree qualified in a relevant discipline.Desirable MBA/masters in engineering.What we offer We value the importance of all of our employees; if you would like to join our fantastic organisation, you could be entitled to:
