The role:
As our Head of Production, you'll be responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of our Submarine Manufacturing capability at Babcock including welding, manufacturing, electrical, mechanical etc.
You will lead teams in the development, planning, and delivery of new mission-critical products, reporting to the Director of Production.
This position ensures production processes are executed efficiently, on time, and within budget, while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
As a leader, you will align production goals with the company's strategic objectives, lead the production team, and collaborate with other departments to meet business targets.
Day-to-day responsibilities include: Health & Safety: Ensuring that all production processes comply with safety regulations, maintaining a safe working environment for all employees.Leadership: Leading, motivating, and developing the production team, ensuring a high-performance and continuous improvement culture.Strategic & Planning: Developing manufacturing strategies in line with company goals, pipeline, market trends, and technological advancements.Quality Control: Maintaining and improving the quality of products through robust systems and adherence to quality standards.Production Efficiency and Performance: Ensuring that production operations meet or exceed planned output targets while optimizing resource utilization.Cost Management: Managing the production budget, minimizing waste, and optimizing cost-efficiency while meeting production targets.Production Planning & Control: Leading planning and control teams to ensure effective mobilization, continuity, order book management, and delivery, while mitigating risks (e.g., safety hazards, supply chain disruptions, and equipment failures).This is a full-time role, consisting of a 37-hour working week.
You will predominantly be based at our Bristol, Ashton Vale site but can offer hybrid working arrangements from time to time, depending on business requirements.
Essential experience of the Head of Production: Experience in manufacturing leadership roles, with a proven track record of managing manufacturing delivery, engineering, and/or operations.Excellent leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, capable of leading and motivating a diverse team working cross-functionally.Experience with budgeting, cost management, and capital expenditure planning.Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, Six Sigma, and other continuous improvement methodologies.Knowledge of quality management systems, health and safety regulations, and relevant industry standards.Strong knowledge of production processes, techniques, and industry best practices.Proficiency in production management software and ERP systems – desirable.Knowledge in one or more of complex fabrication, machining, or assembly and integration – desirable.Qualifications for the Head of Production: Bachelor's or master's degree in manufacturing, engineering, operations management, or a related field – desirable.Security Clearance:
