Job summary An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced strategic and commercial leader to lead the development of Royal Papworth's Private Care service.
This is a new role, demonstrating the Trust's commitment to the development of Private Care and the role will have significant influence on the future direction of the service.The role will provide leadership and direction to the service from a strategic and operational perspective, growing the service sustainably.
The role will be the figurehead for Private Care, collaborating with stakeholders internally and externally to successfully build the brand and deliver a service offering that is fit for purpose for both consultants and patients.
The role will work with existing functions across the Trust to develop and implement a Private Care Strategy that delivers on growth objectives.The role will model inclusive and collaborative behaviours that align to the Trust values and contribute to a sense of belonging across the team.
The role will require rounded leadership and excellent strategic skills, combined with the ability to establish strong relationships.

Main duties of the job Strategy: provide strategic and operational leadership for Private Care.
Lead the development and delivery of a Private Care strategy, including a target operating model for the underpinning delivery infrastructure.Operational, delivery and governance: accountable for the performance and management of private care services, including the delivery of operational capacity and a functioning service model that is for the purpose for both patients and consultants.
Ensure that the underpinning team structure and wider infrastructure that supports the service is in plan and fit for purpose to deliver the Trust's ambitions.
Where this is not the case, be skilled in identifying the gaps and developing business cases to implement solutions.Putting people first: model inclusive and collaborative behaviours that foster a sense of belonging.
Coach, inspire and motivate the team and others, empowering them to achieve their potential and in turn build a culture that respects and values staff.Stakeholder engagement: as the figurehead for Private Care, work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to achieve objectives.
Lead strategic relationships with payors and referrers, develop communication, engagement and marketing strategies including a consultant engagement approach.
About us Royal Papworth Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is the UK's leading heart and lung hospital, delivering care to more than 50,000 patients a year in its new state-of-the-art hospital in Cambridge.
We perform the most heart and/or lung transplants in the UK and carried out the UK's first successful heart transplant in 1979.
It also offers emergency heart attack treatment, sleep centre care and is one of just five centres nationally for those in severe respiratory failure.

Person Specification Qualifications Essential Masters level education or equivalent experience.
Evidence of commitment to continuous learning and development and a comprehensive professional knowledge across a range of specialities including strategic development, business development, governance, financial management, engagement and staff management acquired through training and experience over extensive period.
Desirable Relevant postgraduate qualification in management discipline Experience Essential Substantial experience of leading the operational and service aspects of private healthcare, either within a private setting or NHS hospital setting.
Experience developing and growing private care profits, including experience establishing and developing an effective service offering to both consultants and patients.
Strong, demonstrable understanding of the service aspects of private healthcare delivery and what good looks like.
Experience of instigating and leading complex change to achieve continuous improvement.
Substantial demonstrable experience of service demand and capacity planning, including the ability to translate gaps into business cases that clearly demonstrate return on investment.
Strong understanding of how NHS services are delivered and ideally specialised services, including a sound understanding of the performance and governance requirements of the NHS.
Track record of achievement as a leader which demonstrates significant successes through innovation and a strong but sensitive style, which contributes directly to the patient and staff experience and continuous improvement.
Substantial experience of managing within a complex organisation and balancing multiple objectives.
Ability to develop and implement organisational strategies relating to private care.
This will include providing and receiving highly complex and highly sensitive information and analysing this in order to develop and compare strategic options.
Track record of leading a team in a complex setting and delivering strategic objectives, including setting work plans and tracking deliverables.
Extension experience of financial management in healthcare, including NHS and/or private healthcare costing and payment regimes.
Understanding of private healthcare payment models.
Experience managing complex budgets and services.
Significant experience of financial management and rigorous financial management and control to meet agreed targets.
Highly numerate, confident manipulating and interpreting data.
Able to demonstrate advanced analytical, negotiation and numerical skills.
Ability to assess situations and take calculated risks based on learning and experience, to achieve longer-term service improvements.
Significant experience of the development of business cases/proposals for both capital and revenue investment cases.
Business development experience, including the operational delivery of commercial programmes of activity.
Experience contributing to the delivery of increased commercial profits in a healthcare setting.
Excellent individual organisation skills and an ability to effectively prioritise individual and team work to achieve deliverables in a busy and unpredictable work environment.
Experience of establishing and applying performance management systems in areas like contract monitoring, staff management and departmental performance indicators.
Experience developing and maintaining relationships with a range of complex, sophisticated customers in a variety of diverse settings.
Specific demonstrable experience in working with and influencing others.
Ability to communicate in an impactful and inclusive way, in both written and verbal forms, including experience in report writing.
An ability to connect and engage with a wide and diverse range of people, in large and small audiences, including when presenting complex and highly sensitive information to internal and external stakeholders.
Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work proactively and cooperatively with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
Ability to negotiate and influence a range of stakeholders to achieve outcomes and demonstrable, extensive experience working with multiple hospital departments to ensure sufficient capacity for private or other healthcare activities.
A collaborative and partnership mindset and demonstrable experience working successfully in partnership with consultants and other clinical professionals.
An ability to understand individual drivers and to tailor communication and management frameworks to respond to this effectively.
Experience in directly communicating with patients and relatives, responding to complains and receiving / seeking feedback to improve services.
Ability to access, analyse and translate complex data and information to clinical teams.
Ability to develop and influence a high performing, collaborative team, whilst allowing flexibility for members to develop against their own personal targets.
Detailed knowledge of annual service planning with the ability to support and direct Directorate team effectively through the planning cycle.
Excellent judgement based on evidence, research, logical thinking that aligns to the vision, mission and values of the Trust.
Excellent computer skills.
