Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional nursing leader to join our senior leadership team in the Renal and Urology Care Group. The Head of Nursing will work collaboratively with the General Manager and senior nursing team, reporting to the Clinical Director with professional accountability to the Site Director of Nursing.

Main duties of the jobLEADERSHIP To support the development of and promote the Trust's mission, values, aims and objectives.SERVICE DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE In conjunction with Clinical Director, General Manager and his/her team, agree the strategic direction of the Care Group in order to align its plans with the Trust's values and principles in implementing the national policy agenda.BUDGETARY AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT To be responsible for the nursing budget within the Care Group, ensuring each speciality manages and has effective budgetary control.PEOPLE MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT Working with the Site Director of Nursing and senior nursing colleagues, to carry out 6 monthly skill mix reviews as required by the Chief Nurse/Corporate Director of Nursing ensuring the established figures meet the needs of the Care Group.POLICY DEVELOPMENT, EDUCATION, RESEARCH AND AUDIT In conjunction with the Director of Nursing & corporate nursing, ensure the continued development of nursing practice to take account of research and development within the framework of the nursing and midwifery strategy.RISK MANAGEMENT AND QUALITY To work closely with the General Manager, Clinical Director and Clinical Governance lead, to develop an integrated strategy for clinical governance, with a specific focus on all aspects of clinical and non-clinical risk management.Person specificationQualificationsRegistered Nurse (1st level registration)Higher professional or management degree master's level or equivalent experienceEvidence of continuous professional developmentKnowledge & ExperienceExtensive management and leadership experience at or near board levelTo demonstrate a full expert understanding of the current issues within nursing, specifically within the speciality and nursing as a wholeTo demonstrate a vision for nursing and secure the active commitment of multidisciplinary staff in working towards achieving thisEvidence of delivering nursing performance including safer staffing, skill mix reviews, infection control, risk management, complaints and Adverse IncidentsProven management skills demonstrated by successful resource management in a changing environment with a direct approach to problem solving, which reflects reality, requiring an effective and co-operative personal leadership styleEvidence of ability to manage a substantial budget within financial limitStrong organisational ability and well developed resource and staff management skills, able to forecast & planProven ability to manage and deliver complex and changing workload, which will include the need to identify and resolve conflicting priorities within tight timescalesExperience of working with a diverse range of stakeholders e.g. KHP and Clinical Academic Group and a successful track record of influence and engagementAbility to develop networks and partnerships as requiredAbility to demonstrate possession of excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to use them to motivate and develop staffExperience of working and delivering Trust-wide professional nursing objectivesUnderstanding of the local health economyPersonal SkillsEvidence of first-class interpersonal skills with the ability to utilise them effectively within a co-operative, multi-disciplinary, team-based working environmentWell-developed leadership and influencing skills, able to successfully foster and manage inter-relationships between Care Groups.
