Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional nursing leader to join our senior leadership team in the Renal and Urology Care Group. The Head of Nursing will work collaboratively with the General Manager and senior nursing team, reporting to the Clinical Director with professional accountability to the Site Director of Nursing.

Main duties of the job LEADERSHIP To support the development of and promote the Trust's mission, values, aims and objectives. To provide clinical leadership to the Clinical Care Group, acting as a role model for best practice nursing ensuring that poor clinical leadership is identified, challenged and improved. To provide senior professional nurse leadership, motivation and supervision to all nursing and health care assistants within the Care Group. To work in partnership with the Site Director of Nursing and Corporate colleagues to implement the annual nursing workforce plan which integrates with the local service development plans. To act as senior member of the Care Group management team ensuring nursing input into strategic and operational decisions. SERVICE DEVELOPMENT AND PERFORMANCE In conjunction with Clinical Director, General Manager and his/her team, agree the strategic direction of the Care Group in order to align its plans with the Trust's values and principles. To monitor and evaluate nursing performance across the care group and ensure submission of data to Trust wide nursing performance spreadsheet. To be responsible for the management, professional and operational delivery of high quality clinical care across the Care Group, ensuring that patients are always treated with dignity and respect. BUDGETARY AND FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT To be responsible for the nursing budget within the Care Group, ensuring each speciality manages and has effective budgetary control. To monitor and control bank and agency use within the care group ensuring that utilisation is within the agreed budget. To ensure effective and appropriate deployment of nursing staff via electronic rostering through adhering to the agreed performance indicators. Person specification Qualifications Registered Nurse (1st level registration) Higher professional or management degree master's level or equivalent experience Evidence of continuous professional development Knowledge & Experience Extensive management and leadership experience at or near board level. To demonstrate a full expert understanding of the current issues within nursing, specifically within the speciality and nursing as a whole. Evidence of delivering nursing performance including safer staffing, skill mix reviews, infection control, risk management, complaints and Adverse Incidents. Proven management skills demonstrated by successful resource management in a changing environment. Strong organisational ability and well developed resource and staff management skills. Personal Skills Evidence of first-class interpersonal skills with the ability to utilise them effectively within a co-operative, multi-disciplinary, team-based working environment. Well-developed leadership and influencing skills, able to successfully foster and manage inter-relationships between Care Groups.
