You'll be part of the EMEA leadership team and have overall responsibility on all commercial legal matters within this region.
You will oversee a team of 9 direct reports (UK based and remote) and be expected to advise and provide commercially attractive legal advice and risk mitigation to all functional areas within EMEA, and provide support on global legal work when required.
Essential Functions & Accountabilities: Set strategy, manage, lead, inspire and develop the EMEA legal team.
As part of senior leadership teams in EMEA, provide strategic guidance and support on all legal matters.
Responsible for overseeing, negotiating, and drafting various significant strategic and operational commercial contracts, projects, and transactions both within EMEA and Globally.
Support all functions in EMEA, including Sales & Marketing, HR, Manufacturing, Distribution, IT, Supply Chain, Regulatory / Quality and Finance, Tax and Treasury on legal issues and risk management.
Proactively assess legal risks to the business and work with management to devise and implement systems and commercial solutions to manage risks and achieve commercial objectives.
Provide updates and mitigation on pertinent legal issues, as well as guidance on, and ensure compliance with industry specific laws and regulations concerning marketing, advertising, business conduct and health care law compliance.
Manage EMEA Legal budget, supervise outside counsel and other advisors as needed, establishing, and keeping updated a legal panel across EMEA, to ensure value added services and efficiency are received.
Set strategy and coordinate / manage all litigation matters related to the business in EMEA, in conjunction with Group Legal support.
Proactively partner and work with other group companies, to drive local alignment with global best practices and active knowledge sharing.
Provide support on global legal work, ad hoc projects, and to the VP Legal, as required.
Support corporate work, including post integration activities, as required.
Act as lead for Global Marketing support.
Travel expectations: This role would require someone to travel internationally on a monthly basis.
About you: You'll be an experienced commercial lawyer with around 15 years PQE, ideally within a mix of practise and inhouse roles.
You would have operated as part of a senior leadership team, managed a medium sized team across countries and have a passion for people and their development.
Additional Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Admitted to practice as a solicitor in the UK or another major common law jurisdiction.
Experience in working in an in-house environment or large law firm.
Generalist with a broad base of commercial and corporate experience who is familiar with operating in an in-house environment, including knowledge of GDPR and general privacy laws.
Ability to perform sophisticated legal analysis, strong writing skills and superior judgment.
Outstanding English language verbal and written communication skills; excellent negotiation skills.
