Are you ready to lead transformative projects and drive growth in a dynamic region? South Hams District Council and West Devon Borough Council are seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our award-winning joint senior management team as the Head of Land and Property. This is a unique opportunity to spearhead our joint land and property objectives and support our growth ambitions, working on ground-breaking initiatives that will shape the future of our communities.
As Head of Land & Property, you will oversee the strategic management and sustainable growth of the estate portfolio for South Hams and West Devon Councils. We have prioritised climate change mitigation and decarbonisation, and you will play a vital role in ensuring these are central to all policies and actions. As the council's corporate property officer, you have a real chance to make a lasting impact in the lives of our residents, who are at the heart of everything we do.
If you are looking for an opportunity in local government that is varied in nature, covering commercial properties, housing stock and municipal buildings, as well as coastal defences, public open spaces, and renewables, whilst also looking to make an environmental impact, then this role will suit you. The post offers a set of unique and rewarding challenges to someone with a previous track record in a Head of Service position, who is comfortable providing strategic advice and guidance to the SMT and elected members.
About you
To succeed in this role, you will feel comfortable advising on commercial investments, estate management, and the wider estate strategy, with a demonstrable track record in this space. You will have the opportunity to oversee and help develop the councils' estates and facilities management teams and work as a collective to support the housing, climate change, and building maintenance teams. Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills are crucial, as you will be working with a diverse range of partners on a day-to-day basis. A deep understanding of benchmarking alternative methods of delivery to ensure the best return on investments will be vital to success in this role.
Why join us?
As part of an award-winning joint senior management team, you will work on ground-breaking initiatives. We are proud of our workforce, which is known for excellence and innovation, and you will play an active role in the development of teams in this context. Part of this will be your ongoing professional development opportunities and a supportive work environment, all while making a real difference to the residents of South Hams and West Devon.
If you are ready to take on this exciting challenge and contribute to the future success of South West Devon, we want to hear from you.
