Job summary St Margaret's Hospice Care are looking for an interim Head of Engagement (Corporate, Community & Events), to take the lead on delivering our public fundraising programme during our 45th anniversary year.

As well as celebrating a milestone anniversary, 2025 will see the launch of our new five-year strategy.
At the heart of this, is the need to challenge perceptions and build greater awareness of what hospice care is today.
We want to help people to understand how people can access St Margaret's and benefit from our outstanding range of services.

Main duties of the job You will play a crucial role in building brand awareness through our interactions with the community during our 45th anniversary year.
You will also put the foundations in place for the next generation of fundraisers.
We have an exciting schedule of events, campaigns and community engagement activities planned for 2025 and you will be a key part of that.

Leading by example, you will motivate and inspire colleagues, helping them achieve success through a shared vision.Ensuring a joined-up, collaborative approach across the fundraising directorate, prioritising the supporter experience.Helping to embed relationships both within the hospice (including with our 31 charity shops and clinical teams) and externally to maximise our community engagement across Somerset.Developing and delivering strategic action plans to generate income for the hospice.Oversee engagement with our local community, whether that's individuals, groups, schools, churches, and local businesses who want to support the hospice.

This includes regular performance management, objective setting, and annual appraisals, as well as identifying learning and development needs, to help staff achieve their potential.
Collaborate with the Volunteer Services Team to attract and retain volunteer resourcing in support of income generation, so that we can grow our outputs and engagement with the local community.
Work as part of the Income Generation Senior Leadership Team, role modelling behaviours, and leading on strategy, as well as identifying how we can innovate engagement with our multiple community stakeholders.
Work closely with the Director of Fundraising, Retail & Communications to maximise support for St Margarets Hospice, networking and developing relationships on behalf of the charity.
Identify, develop and manage internal relationships for the benefit of income generation, while encouraging and facilitating cross team working.
Act as an expert fundraising resource and provide support and advice for the wider team.
Strategy, Budgets & Reporting Develop and deliver strategic annual operating plans, budgets and KPIs for different products, campaigns and events, in line with the current fundraising strategic framework.
Manage and report on budgets, identifying risks and providing mitigation strategies, which feed into reforecasting and quarterly reporting to the Income Generation & Marketing (IG&M) Committee.
Report, analyse and evaluate all activities, providing scrutiny of performance including, setting, and monitoring response rates, new and repeat responders, and return on investment.
Use this evidence to help shape and inform future strategy, growth and decision making.
Working together with the Head of Fundraising, help shape and deliver audience insight projects which will underpin and maximise our activities to engage our community effectively and successfully.
Undertake research and competitor analysis to help build robust fundraising strategies for income generation products.
Community Engagement Oversee engagement with our local community to deliver and grow income from individuals, groups, schools, churches, and local businesses who want to support the hospice.
Take the lead on ensuring all income generation teams cross-sell opportunities putting supporters at the heart of all decision making.
Support and coordinate the team to deliver a range of innovative campaigns, initiatives and fundraising events tailored to different stakeholder audiences.
Advise and support delivery of stewardship tactics to maximise response and results from events, community and corporate fundraising campaigns and activities.
Enable the team to have the appropriate resources, materials, capacity, and expertise to support our community who organise and participate in events and income generation activities on our behalf.
Ensure that our community of fundraisers receive the same high level of supporter experience, which further supports retention and lifetime value.
Collaborate with the retail team to capitalise on the role of shops as a conduit to the local community, developing strategies to create local engagement hubs that support all income generation.
Ensure we maximise relationships with the business community to secure new long-term, high value partnerships with the hospice, supporting the team to deliver against challenging new business and income generation targets.
Oversee the development of the corporate fundraising programme and pipeline, ensuring there is a good mix of opportunities and products for businesses to engage with.
Personally develop and account manage key high value corporate relationships to support the growth of the programme and maximise income generation from this area.Events Oversee the safe and successful delivery of the scheduled programme of St Margarets Events, by supporting the Events Manager to lead on the operational delivery of mass participation and challenge events Work with the Events Manager to develop the annual events portfolio and budget, guiding promotion and stewardship tactics to maximise income; set appropriate targets and KPIs for success with a focus on clear return on investment.
Ensure all events are thoroughly reviewed and learnings captured; make evidence-based decisions about future event activity.
Ensure that all our event participants receive a high level of appropriate stewardship to maximise their fundraising and likelihood of continued support.
Work towards securing sponsorship for all Hospice run events, so that costs are underwritten, and income is maximised.
Compliance Represent fundraising on relevant internal governance and data protection meetings and work with Director of Fundraising to ensure operational compliance and standards maintained with relevant legislation and regulatory bodies, including but not limited to Health & Safety, as well as Chartered Institute of Fundraising / Fundraising Regulator Codes.
Ensure that all fundraising activity is correctly recorded on the Fundraising Beacon CRM and complies with Data Protection rules, and enables a seamless supporter experience, while offering greater insights and evidence to support income generation decisions.
Ensure any risk from fundraising activities is identified, mitigations are put in place and issues, and complaints are fully investigated.Additional Responsibilities Keep abreast of all competitor activity and regularly identify and evaluate external trends for income generation activities and new products by reading fundraising press, monitoring other charity campaigns and events and the use of peer networks and trade bodies.
Carry out any other reasonable duty, that would be expected of this role.
The post holder would be expected to attend events and fundraising activity out of hours and at weekends in support of the team.
Person Specification Education and Qualifications Essential A-Levels or equivalent (A-C) Desirable Degree level education, or equivalent experience.
Member of the Chartered Institute of fundraising.
Degree level education.

Desirable Demonstrable experience of working in hospice/charity environment Experience of successfully managing at least one income stream (to include Community, Events, Corporate) Experience of securing funds from Payroll Giving Leading in your area Essential Ability to develop impactful income generation propositions and fundraising campaigns, and related materials to engage target stakeholders Experience of developing operating plans, risk assessments and using a project management approach First class knowledge and practical delivery of Supporter Experience Excellent communications skills both written and verbal.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office Packages.
Solid understanding of how to harness digital platforms to engage social communities Knowledge and understanding of Charity Law and compliance including Advertising and regulations, GDPR and data protection.
Thorough knowledge and understanding of budgets, ability to develop and manage income and expenditure budgets.
Knowledge of relevant Institute of Fundraising Codes of Practice.
Commitment to the values of the Hospice.
Able to travel between offices and to other locations/events as required.
