Summary: Scotch whisky is a key driver for Diageo's future growth ambitions making the company's operations in Scotland - where all its Scotch whisky brands including Johnnie Walker are produced - central to the future success of the business. As the home of Scotch whisky, Scotland is the host for global visitors – both internal and external – and the company's reputation in Scotland has an impact in all of Diageo's 21 markets and 180 countries where Scotch whisky is a key growth driver.
Growing Scotch and in particular Johnnie Walker, is a key priority for Diageo PLC and is reflected in the IBOs of all business leaders. To succeed it is imperative that Diageo not only protects its licence to produce Scotch Whisky in Scotland, but that we create a positive environment in which it can thrive. Because of these factors it is crucial that Diageo is trusted and respected with the complex network of Scottish media and with government stakeholders, securing a positive environment against which Diageo's investment and future growth ambitions for Scotch whisky can be realised.
Role Responsibilities: Lead proactive and reactive media engagement and communications for Diageo businesses in Scotland.Lead engagement with government stakeholders in Scotland.Work closely with President of Global Supply & Procurement, and ISC Supply Director and team to deliver external engagement and reputation goals.Provide advice and support to Diageo business leadership on all public affairs issues which impact on Diageo's reputation in Scotland.Work closely with Diageo GB, Europe and PLC with Diageo Global Brand Teams to align Diageo's corporate reputation activity with Diageo commercial activity, particularly relating to the development of the Scotch whisky business and tourism investment, working to enhance the reputation of Diageo's key Scotch whisky brands – primarily Johnnie Walker – in Scotland.Lead the creation and maintenance of positive public profiles for key Diageo leaders – primarily Global President Supply & Procurement, GB Managing Director, Scotland Brand Homes MD. Also work closely with PLC team on CEO, CFO, CMO profiles in Scotland.Lead on using Diageo's people assets in Scotland to enhance Diageo's corporate reputation.Lead the development and execution of external messaging – from content research, writing and delivery.Experience: Substantial media experience: Can clearly demonstrate in-depth understanding of the media landscape at local, Scottish and UK level and can clearly demonstrate a strong network of contacts with key media. Ideally will have worked directly at senior level in the media.Substantial government affairs experience: Can clearly demonstrate in-depth understanding of the political landscape at local, Scottish and UK level and can clearly demonstrate a strong network of contacts in government and politics. Ideally will have experience of working directly at Westminster and/or Scottish Parliament.Strong relationship building and alignment skills. Can clearly demonstrate ability to network externally and internally and demonstrate ability to manage a complex matrix of interests and contacts and ability to manage and align internal stakeholders with a unified goal.Strong team player: Demonstrates a strong team working ethic with the ability not only to succeed, but to create the conditions which allows others to succeed and develop. Shows willingness to share knowledge and understanding and to take responsibility for development of colleagues.Commercial delivery. Has strong commercial awareness and experience of working in a highly commercial environment. Good understanding of Diageo's commercial drivers and disciplines and ability to align these with corporate reputation goals.Managing complexity. Demonstrates track record of managing complex networks and issues, successfully aligning multiple stakeholder interests and agendas.Strong personal drive and ambition to develop. The role requires commitment and desire to continually progress and develop, with ambition for personal progress aligned to ambition for Diageo's business success.Some travel to London and occasional global in-market travel.
