Your New Role: We have a fantastic opportunity for a Head of Commercial to join our fast-growing Work Winning Team supporting securing new FM business within our Complex Facilities Business unit. This is a full-time, permanent role that offers remote working. Travelling as part of the role will be required.
The Head of Commercial will be responsible for developing, agreeing and implementing commercial bid strategies to support the success of a range of FM, projects and decarbonisation bids for public sector clients.
Heading up the commercial function as part of the Work Winning Team, you will ensure all aspects of our bid solutions mitigate commercial risk and optimise opportunities to enhance win probability. As commercial lead you will take an entrepreneurial and innovative approach to each growth opportunity, working closely with bid management, pricing and solutions colleagues. You will play a leading role in developing excellent client relationships, participating in meetings, workshops and presentations, and supply chain engagement. You will lead all aspects of commercial governance, working closely with members of the executive team to ensure awareness and buy-in for selected growth opportunities, ensuring compliance with the Amey governance framework and commercial procedures.
A leader and role model in Inclusion and Diversity, you will coach and mentor both the commercial and wider teams to excel and enable empowerment throughout the team.
You will be responsible for: Promoting and developing commercial collaboration and effective working relationships with key stakeholders and other Business Units/contracts to maximise bidding/competitive advantage and develop collaboration across Amey.Identifying and delivering commercial best practice to maximise bid win probability and minimise risk and cost to Amey with due regard to the specifics of each bid opportunity.Creating and developing effective and efficient relationships with the commercial and financial leadership in their area of influence (client and customer).Developing and enhancing commercial liaison and influence with trade organisations and key commercial groups.Being commercially responsible for the identification and bid management of opportunity, risk, value and cash recovery of the Business Unit/Stream/Framework in Bids through analysis/review of contract conditions and associated payment/performance requirements.Championing processes and systems to bring improved efficiency to the commercial management of bids.Implementing commercial opportunity and risk strategy, including the supply chain arrangements and putting in place the processes to ensure that such commercial opportunities and risks are managed effectively and contribute to successful growth.Liaising with and supporting where required the post-contract award commercial teams - notably during mobilisation.Influencing and leading the Work Winning commercial staff to meet their deliverables in terms of successful bidding and to enhance the commercial awareness and support the achievement of the Business Unit and Amey Group strategy and objectives.Working with stakeholders to develop pricing and commercial frameworks for high-value strategic FM bids (>£250m) to ensure value optimisation, client deliverables are met and we develop and deliver a commercial strategy to maximise evaluation against the client stated criteria.Taking an active role in bid and client dialogue, leading on commercial related issues and development of solutions.Reviewing and contributing to bid submissions including qualitative checks to validate robustness, deliverability, and conformance with client bidding instructions.Supply chain engagement throughout the bidding process including development of formalised bidding arrangements including the appropriate flow-down of T&C's.Being a role model for Amey's Inclusion and Diversity policy and encouraging an open and honest environment within the team. Supporting the recruitment and retention of commercial staff.Undertaking people management duties including Performance Development Reviews for direct reports and providing year on year improvements in the competency strength and behavioural approach of the Commercial team.We want to hear from you if you have: Degree or master's degree in quantity surveying, commercial or related profession.Experience in review, interpretation and understanding of contracts and payment mechanisms.Excellent Health & Safety awareness and ability to enforce safety policies and compliance in Commercial terms.Excellent commercial and financial acumen.Personal determination and enthusiasm to drive dynamic change.Clear understanding of the importance of robust business processes and systems and a strong commitment to quality.Legal understanding relevant to contracts.Knowledge of the UK governments' agenda for support services including the Outsourcing or Construction Playbooks.Awareness of the wider industry drivers, direction of travel and competitors.Outstanding leadership skills and ability to build an effective team.Outstanding communication and presentation skills, with a strength in stakeholder management.Works openly and collaboratively to maximise overall organisational health.Experience of leading large commercial projects at a senior level with multiple direct reports, deriving and delivering commercial strategy.Experience in managing and developing commercial solutions on bids.Track record of winning work and/or delivering good project returns.Track record of recruiting, developing and leading inclusive and diverse teams.Experience of leading and satisfactorily concluding dispute resolution procedures and proactively implementing dispute avoidance.Experience in successful supply chain management and strategy.Actively involved with professional institutions in the development and strengthening of the profession and future talent/attraction.What we offer you: When you join us, we can offer flexibility, career development, a choice of benefits and support that help you through all life's ups and downs.
