Head Of Bbc Funding And Economic Impact

Details of the offer

The successful candidate will join the BBC Policy team and work in a high-profile role focused on an exciting subject area.

The BBC team is focused on the upcoming BBC Charter Review, which sets the framework for the BBC's future.
Audience viewing habits are rapidly changing, with people increasingly turning to social media and online platforms for content.
The Charter Review is a rare opportunity to look at the future role of the BBC in this context, including its responsibilities to audiences, the wider creative economy, and how it is regulated and funded.

The successful candidate will lead a policy team with a particular focus on future funding of the BBC and the role the BBC can play in driving economic growth and jobs across all parts of the UK.
As priorities for the Charter Review develop, you may need to be flexible in taking on or supporting other areas of work.
You will play a key role in leadership of our team and in the wider Directorate.
You will ensure your team delivers on Ministerial and departmental priorities by creating a sense of purpose and focus on outcomes, making and supporting good, evidence-based decisions, empowering and developing the individuals in your team, and building strong, constructive relationships with stakeholders and other government departments.

This is an area of significant political interest and offers an exciting opportunity for candidates looking to work on a priority project, with significant exposure to Ministers and senior officials.

Person specification The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:
Essential requirements: Leadership: Proven experience of leading a team and complex work programmes, setting direction through ambiguity and demonstrating adaptability and resilience.
Evidence of contributing to the wider corporate culture and goals of your team and wider organisation.
Strategic thinking and policy making: Proven experience of leading the development and delivery of complex policy.
In doing this, you have demonstrated your ability to see the big picture and use that to shape the direction of your work, and to make effective, evidence-based decisions.
Communication skills: Track record of effectively building constructive working relationships within and across organisations, even in challenging circumstances.
Evidence of being able to credibly advise and influence senior stakeholders.
Planning and delivery skills: Experience of proactively shaping a team's work, managing short and long-term priorities, and working collaboratively with others to deliver high-quality work over a sustained period of time.
Desirable skills: Experience working with Senior Officials and/or Ministers (or individuals of equivalent experience/status).
Experience of working on economic policy and/or working closely with analytical colleagues in a policy-making environment.
Knowledge or interest in working on media policy.
If you do not hold this knowledge or experience, please do not be deterred from applying for the role.

We are running an information session where prospective applicants can find out more about the role.
This will be hosted by Helen Martin and will take place on:
Tuesday 7th January at 3pm The session will be an opportunity to hear more about the role, the team, and the wider directorate and department.
It will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions.
