Job summary This Biomedical Scientist development post offers an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic HCPC State Registered Biomedical Scientist to further develop your specialist knowledge in the Haematology and Blood Transfusion section of our busy, friendly, Blood Sciences department.The post is based at the Luton and Dunstable Hospital but the successful candidate will be required to participate in the 24/7 shifts at both Bedfordshire Hospital Laboratory sites based on service needs.The department has full ISO 15189accreditation, IBMS/HCPC training status and is one of a few organisations to have Clinical Biochemistry, Haematology, & Transfusion Science National School of Healthcare Science accredited training status for clinical sciences.This is a development Biomedical Scientist post with an automatic promotion to a Band 6 Specialist Biomedical Scientist post on attainment of an IBMS Specialist Diploma or equivalent, which can be supported and funded by the department.We use Beckman Coulter DxH900, Beckman coulter Automate 1200, IL ACL TOP 550 and 350, Grifol Erytra Eflexis analysers and Sebia Capillarys 3 Octafor Haemoglobinopathy screening.

Main duties of the job The post holder will contribute to the day to day operations and assist in the technical aspects of the service.The post holder will assist the specialist BMS and senior laboratory BMS in the delivery of a high quality, efficient and effective service, through the Quality Management System [QMS].
They will contribute to the implementation of change as directed by the laboratory seniors/manager, when delegated or appropriate to service needs.The post holder is expected to implement policies and procedures ensuring that the service complies with current UKAS standards, national and European legislation and discipline specific regulatory bodies.The post holder may be required to assist in the training and development of support staff.

Job description Job responsibilities The Job Description and Person Specification are attached to this job, please review for the full details and responsibilities.Please note: Following the recent update on UK immigration policy for those on a Health and Care Visa or Skilled Worker Visa we are unable to provide sponsorship for this post.Key Responsibilities To perform as a HCPC Registered Specialist Biomedical Scientist assisting in the delivery of the department services.To assist the specialist BMS and laboratory senior BMS in the implementation and deliveryof a cohesive service, in conjunction the clinical lead of the department.To implement the quality policy for the department including the agreed quality objectives.To contribute to the implementation of UKAS standards for the department using the Pathology Quality Management System as established, to fulfil the quality circles and audit inherent to the ISO 15189 standards of compliance.To assist in the action plans required resolving nonconformities that are recorded by internal and/or external audits or complaints and to ensure the completion of corrective and preventative actions that have been identified.To follow the Standard Operating Procedures [SOP] for the department utilising the Document Management Module of the Q-Pulse system.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Completed an Institute of Biomedical Scientist (IBMS) accredited degree (BSc) in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent and demonstrable experience at BMS level.
HCPC BMS Registrant.
Experience Essential Specialist knowledge of Biomedical procedures.
Must have experience working in Biomedical science at a basic level.
Desirable Laboratory experience in Haematology or Blood Transfusion laboratory Communication Skills Essential Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, at all levels.
Good listening skills Knowledge Essential Specialised knowledge of Biomedical procedures.
Fully conversant within the Biomedical methodology, and ability to work without supervision, but within the parameters of the role descriptor.
Skills Essential Ability to utilise evaluation tools.
Standard keyboard skills.
Excellent Inter-personal skills.
Personal integrity - leading by example.
Drive and determination.
Flexibility Desirable Flexible in approach and in working relationships.
