Job overview The Group Director of Nursing is a key senior leadership role within the organisation.
There are three Care Groups that oversee all clinical services within University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, each of the Care Groups is led by a triumvirate team of leaders - the Group Director of Operations (managerially responsible), the Medical Director and the Group Director of Nursing.

The Medical Care Care Group incorporates four diverse Directorates with circa 2,500 staff and a £210m budget.

The Group Director of Nursing role has responsibility for quality and patient experience and takes a lead on ensuring our governance structures are working well.
The post holder is not only responsible for nursing professionals but also leads for the AHP and clinical scientist workforce.

This year we are planning the moves of some of our services including moving into the new BEACH building, as well as expanding our Patient First improvement model with our teams.

The successful applicant will join a team committed to the triumvirate partnership approach to leading our teams, and be able to influence quality outcomes, pathways and workforce development across a wide range of services within the Care Group.

Location: Royal Bournemouth, Poole and Christchurch Hospitals Interview Date: 23 December 2024 Main duties of the job The Group Director of Nursing is appointed to provide expert, experienced, proven nursing leadership within the Triumvirate.
The post holder will report to the Group Director of Operations and Chief Nursing Officer and will provide strategic vision, clarity of purpose and oversee a clinically safe and cost-effective service within the Medical Care Group.

This role is a senior leadership role and will be required to work across sites.
Excess mileage allowance / reimbursement will not apply, and any travel between the postholder's home and work base will be classified as a commute.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities The purpose of this role is to provide senior strategic nursing leadership in order to consistently develop and deliver a high quality, cost effective nursing service for patients, assuring the provision of safe, effective and evidence-based care within an agreed quality, performance and financial framework.

The post holder will support the Chief Nursing Officer leading the development of the nursing, midwifery, allied health professionals and healthcare scientist agendas within the Trust, working closely with the corporate Chief Nurse, Head of Nursing and AHP/HCS team.

The post holder will provide senior professional leadership to all registered nurses and healthcare support workers within the Care Group and will develop the clinical leadership capability of nursing and the wider non-medical clinical workforce.
Working alongside the Care Group Medical Director this will ensure high levels of clinical engagement with the purpose of delivering high quality patient care.

The individual will lead local projects to both promote and develop nursing at the Trust and will be responsible for aspects of clinical governance (in conjunction with the Care Group Medical Director, Care Group Director of Operations and general managers), patient quality and safety and improving the patient experience.

As a member of the Care Group Leadership Team, the post holder will ensure robust and effective nursing input into the development of strategy, policy and the business planning cycle, as well as the workforce leadership agenda for the Care Group.

Person specification Qualifications Registered Nurse; First degree diploma, or equivalent. Extensive experience working within the acute sector of the NHS at a senior nurse level. A Masters level qualification in nursing, a post graduate qualification or equivalent Experience Proven ability to analyse complex problems and to develop and successfully implement practical and workable solutions to address them. Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively, and to prioritise work programs in the face of competing demands. Previous strategic experience. Personal Attributes Excellent inter-personal and communication skills with good listening skills. High level of work organisation, self-motivation, drive for performance and improvement, and flexibility in approach and attitude.
