The Overhead Line Team within Siemens provides analysis, design and construction assurance for the Overhead Line Equipment of the railway electrification system.
The Overhead Line Equipment is the system of wires that transfers electricity from the railway distribution equipment to the pantograph of the train.
You will be working alongside a dynamic team of around 10-15 people which aims to design and influence the future of rail electrification in the UK.
Within the Overhead Line Team, you will learn the basics of how the electrification system for railways operates, understanding the different interfaces between rolling stock and infrastructure, alongside interesting technical challenges such as electrifying at lower cost than ever before due to the demands of the decarbonisation programme.
You will undertake design, project engineering and construction activities to gain a greater understanding of the role the Overhead Line team plays in supporting the wider business.
As the team is based in various locations across the country, you may be required to spend extended periods away from your home location (up to a total of 12 months over your two-year graduate scheme - funded by Siemens).
During your two-year graduate scheme, you will also be given the opportunity to gain experience and work in other teams within rail electrification, such as high-voltage distribution design, system design and protection system design.
This will enable you to gain a greater understanding of the interfaces between Overhead Line and the rest of the electrification system.
Expect to be given the freedom to test theories and designs, then to be challenged on them from the other members of the team.
As Siemens is at the forefront of new technology, you will be able to learn about and model the technologies that Siemens are developing to disrupt the way that transport is thought about in the UK.
For the duration of the graduate scheme, you will take part in technical and professional training, with technical training delivered by the top engineers in the business over the course of several weeks.
During these training weeks you will also have a chance to meet and challenge other early career professionals across Siemens Mobility and discuss different experiences, building connections for your burgeoning career.
