Job summary The post holder will report to the Management Team and theGPs and support the GP(s) to ensure the efficient provision of medical servicesand clinics by performing several more routine administrative and clinicalduties.
This will allow the GP(s) to utilise their own time more effectivelytowards greater patient focused activities.Additionally,this role will support both nursing and administrative teams in the delivery ofclinical and administrative services, working as part of the practicemultidisciplinary team, delivering care within their scope of practice to theentitled patient population.
Utilisingthe NHS Health EducationEngland GPA Competency Framework, the post holder workingwithin general practice/primary care will provide capabilities within care,administration, clinical, communications and health records management.
Main duties of the job Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the GP Assistant/Medical Assistant.There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks.
This will bedependent upon factors such as workload and staffing levelsUndertaking new patient health checksProviding support to GP's by taking patient history and baseline observations prior to the patient seeing the GPCarrying out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, recording all findings accurately.Acting as a chaperon as requiredSignposting some received correspondence to others, , clinical pharmacist, practice nurseSupporting practice patients by arranging appointments, onward referrals, clinical tests and follow up appointmentsExplaining treatment procedures to patientsSupporting the practice with immunisationsUndertaking all mandatory training and induction programmeAttending a formal appraisal with line manager at least every 12 months.
Once a a performance/training objective has been set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectives can be agreed.Contributing to public health campaigns through advice or direct care, including opportunistic health promotional programmesTo always mantain a clena, tidy and effective working area.
About us We have a well established practice team consisting of 6 GP's, 2 ANP's alongside nursing and administrative staff.

Demonstrate performance of skills and activities to others undertaking similar work c. Attend relevant annual updates and shared practice learning d. Participate in practice audit as directed by the audit lead e. Participate in local initiatives to enhance service delivery and patient care f. Support and participate in shared learning throughout the PCN g. Undertake any tasks consistent with the level of the post and the scope of the role, ensuring that work is delivered in a timely and effective manner Duties may vary from time to time without changing the general character of the post or the level of responsibility Person Specification Qualifications Essential Healthcare qualification (level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level Experience of working in a primary care environment Experience of working with the general public Experience of working in a healthcare setting New patient medicals, including height, weight, BP, pulse Chaperone procedure Ability to record accurate clinical notes Excellent communication skills (written and oral) Strong IT skills Clear, polite telephone manner Effective time management (planning and organising) Ability to work as a team member and autonomously Good interpersonal skills Ability to follow clinical policy and procedure Polite and confident Flexible and cooperative Motivated Problem-solver with the ability to process information accurately and effectively, interpreting data as required High levels of integrity and loyalty Sensitive and empathetic in distressing situations Ability to work under pressure/in stressful situations Able to communicate effectively and understand the needs of the patient Commitment to ongoing professional development Effectively utilise resources Punctual and committed to supporting the team effort Disclosure Barring Service (DBS) check Occupational Health clearance Desirable Competent in the use of MS Office applications Clinical IT system user skills Flexibility to work outside core office hours
