We are looking for a General Manager Commercial Productions (Maternity Cover) to lead the General Management function of the RSC's London production office. You will be a positive force in our small, friendly office, and be motivated by supporting our internal team as well as facilitating artists working on RSC shows in the West End.
You will oversee the effective and professional delivery and operation of productions, considering artist, producer and company needs at all times, and ensuring the wellbeing of companies. The successful applicant will general manage specific commercial productions including but not limited to My Neighbour Totoro (West End) and Kyoto (West End).
Reporting to Executive Producer (London) and collaborating closely with other freelance Executive Producers, key areas of responsibility include:
Negotiating and overseeing all contracts for commercial productions in line with production budgets and current union agreements, including creative teams, actors, stage management, production teams and other show staff. Securing creative teams for each production and supporting their work on each production. Negotiating co-production and venue agreements as required. Controlling pre-production and running costs for each production. Collaborating with RSC casting team and freelance casting directors. Collaborating with Production Management and Design teams. To be suitable for this role, it is essential that you have the following knowledge and experience:
Significant leadership experience in a management position overseeing productions in commercial theatre Ability to lead and motivate people Strong negotiation and persuasion skills Ability to work independently Ability to stay solutions-focused when challenges arise It's a priority for us to find an individual with the capacity to meaningfully understand artists & their processes and to establish excellent, trusting relationships with them.
The successful candidate will also be able to build strong relationships with a wide range of people including partners, co-producers, creative and technical freelancers, as well as internal RSC colleagues (all departments).
This is a full-time, fixed-term, maternity cover position for 12 months based in London commencing in January/February 2025.
You will be working 48 hours per week, 5 days, although occasional weekend and evening work will be required.
