We're looking for a skilled and motivated Functional Skills Tutor to join our academy in Derby.
In this rewarding part-time role, you'll play a key role in helping learners achieve success by delivering engaging and effective English and Maths lessons at the Functional Skills level.
This is more than just a teaching role—it's an opportunity to inspire, guide, and support learners who are pursuing their Hair and Beauty qualifications.
Many of these learners have Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs), so we're looking for someone with the ability to adapt and deliver tailored support to meet diverse learning needs.
What You'll Be Doing Deliver dynamic and inspiring lessons in Functional Skills English and Maths to small groups of learners.
Work closely with learners to assess their starting points and develop personalized learning plans (ILPs) with clear SMART targets.
Provide face-to-face teaching at the academy, while offering additional remote support when needed.
Guide and motivate learners to help them achieve their academic and personal goals, particularly those with EHCPs.
Monitor attendance, engagement, and progress, and report effectively to management.
Complete all necessary documentation, assessments, and portfolio submissions to meet awarding body and funding requirements.
Collaborate with the Skills Academy Manager to ensure lesson plans meet internal and external standards.
Promote a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment at all times.
What We're Looking For To thrive in this role, you'll need to meet the following qualifications and experience: Qualified English Tutor: Minimum Level 2 subject specialism.
Teaching Qualification: Hold a PTTLS/AET (or equivalent).
Teaching Experience: At least 2 years of proven experience delivering Functional Skills.
Experience with EHCP Learners: Confidence and capability in adapting teaching to meet the needs of learners with Education, Health, and Care Plans.
