Vacancy: Functional Safety Engineer Location: Royston, UK Job Family: General Engineering Johnson Matthey is currently seeking Functional Safety Engineer who will support global sites and be responsible for the implementation of automation safety management standards and policies with a focus on functional safety.
The main purpose of this role is to ensure that delivery of safe automation solutions for the process/machinery domain within the Global EC&I Team.
Initially, this will by completing gap analysis with global safety standards and policies that can be used for both capital and non-capital projects.
This will then lead to upgrading existing site systems in line with these standards.
Your responsibilities: Develop and implement long term plans for functional safety & process control improvements.
Evaluate risks and support with functional safety related PHR/ HAZOP actions in compliance with process safety management standards.
Guide and train area personnel on process control methodology in order to assist process control improvement efforts.
Manage functional safety competency internally across PGMS including contractor management.
Support process control related activities of site capital projects.
Understand how safety devices and components are assembled, programmed and applied to reduce hazards from machinery and processes so as to reduce the operational risk.
Support medium to large CAPEX projects with the implementation of the safety lifecycle.
Prepare and review engineering studies, design drawings, documents, material and equipment specifications.
Requirements for the role: Degree in Electrical / Automation based subject or equivalent with industrial experience.
Proven knowledge in functional safety (e.g.
TUV Functional Safety Certified) and able to develop functional safety plans, participate in layer of protection analysis studies, develop safety requirement specifications, lead functional safety assessments, verify design calculations, develop or check validation & proof test procedures.
Experience of developing procedures and techniques to be used for operations and maintenance, such as the response to faults and failures identified by diagnostics, inspections or proof-tests.
Experience of maintaining functional safety systems using computerised maintenance management system Proven experience working in automation, control industry, and instrumentation How you will be rewarded: We offer a competitive compensation and benefits package including bonus, excellent pension contributions and 25 days annual leave (varies for shift-based roles).
