With the businesses exciting projects, his role might change again.So, you might go in as the Farm Business Manager, but it could develop into a more senior/director role a couple of years later.Tell me more…This role sees you joining a well-known, successful business that specialise in salad crops on over 1,500ac.You'll be reporting to the Director, so you'll have a great support system to get you up to speed.You will also be working closely with the wider company board.
They want to hear your ideas, opinions, and thoughts on how to move the business forward.It'll see you covering a few different keys areas, but this keeps it exciting and different each day.A big part of this senior role is management.
You'll have 5 direct reports, and indirect management of up to 200 at peak.The management team reporting into you are great, they know what they're doing and can get the day-to-day sorted.
You'll be there to make sure all departments align, as well as training, developing, and pushing the team forward.You'll get to use your fresh produce farming expertise, through creating planting programmes, rotational planning, budgeting, and implementation.Whilst ensuring that the operation is running efficiently, you'll be looking at the bigger picture.
This could be developing and managing the farms sustainability plan, looking at long term strategic plans for the farm or agreeing new strategies with the wider group.This job will see you working closely with external stakeholders too.This looks like procuring and planning inputs needed for the farm and building on those existing relationships with key suppliers such as landlords, seed suppliers and plant raisers.It'll also be staying connected with end customers.
This isn't a sales role, but your knowledge will help you manage their expectations and timelines to continue that great relationship.What do I need?The business has been around for a long time, but they've never stopped investing, exploring, and finding new ways to stay at the top of their game.
Now, they want to hear your ideas.You'll thrive in this role if you are great at communicating.
You'll already be managing a team and understand how to get the best out of them.You'll be happy picking up the phone to suppliers and supporting the supply chain team with customers and won't shy away from a difficult conversation.Because this role is looking at the wider business, you'll be good with numbers and an excel spreadsheet won't scare you.This role might suit someone in a traditional veg or produce farm management role, who understands the pressures, manages the budgets and is ready for a new challenge.You might have started in farming and ended up down the commercial route.You might have a purely fresh produce commercial background, but you're happy to get out on farm and get your hands dirty.Either way, we want to hear from you.If you're already at this level of role, then great.
With so many projects going on, you'll be able to have the autonomy straight away.If you're not quite there yet, that's also fine.
