Role Summary To provide a full and efficient family history service to Consultants and Clinical teams.
This will include family history gathering and pedigree drawing, and ensuring that all documentation (for example histology reports, cancer registry confirmation, clinic letters, genetic reports) is obtained in a timely manner pre clinic, and updating of records and pedigrees following appointments, due to tight deadlines.
Ensuring accurate completion and maintenance of records is essential.
Ensure all information is secure and confidentiality of information is maintained at all times.
Provide excellent customer care which may include communication with distressed and anxious patients and relatives, treating them with tact and empathy.
Ensure the professional image of the Royal Devon University Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust is maintained at all times.

More detail about the role A full time Family History Co-ordinator position is available immediately within the Peninsula Clinical Genetics Service.
The service covers the South West Peninsula (Devon and Cornwall), with the main office being in Exeter and satellite offices in Plymouth and Truro.
This post will be based at Heavitree Hospital.
You must be an enthusiastic, highly organised and motivated team player with good communication and interpersonal skills, will have experience of working in an Admin role, and be able to engage and work effectively with colleagues within the multidisciplinary team and teams from other services and hospitals.
You will undertake family history gathering, diagnosis confirmations and general administration duties to enable delivery of a comprehensive, efficient service to support our team of Consultants, Genetic Counsellors and members of the wider team.
To achieve this, you will need to be able to plan, prioritise and organise your own workload effectively.
You will also need to be able to work as a team and offer support with workloads when required.
We work to tight deadlines to ensure the best possible care, so timely, accurate completion and maintenance of records is essential.
Excellent IT skills are essential and training will be provided to enable you to use our bespoke database system (TrakGene) and any other required IT systems.
Medical terminology and knowledge gained from working in a Hospital/NHS environment will be advantageous.
You will also provide information and assistance by telephone to patients, carers and relatives in a sympathetic and caring manner.
Previous customer service is essential as our team is committed to providing an excellent response to those who access our service.
