Job Title: Estimator Location: Reading Salary: up to £75k Hours of Work: 37.5 Hours Monday – Friday Type: Permanent Start Date: Immediately (flexible with notice periods) A leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering, and fit-out company now require an Estimator with experience in the Water Industry to join their team on a permanent basis.
You will have responsibility for the preparation and submission of tenders, under a variety of forms of procurement, working as part of a team with the objective of securing profitable future workload for the business.
Utilising construction knowledge and commercial experience in conjunction with other members of the bid team to ensure competitive bids, you will also manage Risk and Value during the tender period, preparing budgets and cost plans.
This role will be working within our client's Infrastructure - Water South Business unit and based in Reading.
Candidates would need to have past experience working within a water environment.
Duties and responsibilities Appraisal of tender documents.
Preparation of material and sub-contract enquiries including the selection of prospective subcontractors.
Attending strategy / opportunity meetings with project team.
Visit sites to identify site specific risks.
Contribute to the design development process and attend design team meetings as required.
Preparing tender Bills of Quantities.
Preparation of analytical cost estimates including preliminaries.
Prepare budgets and cost plans.
Adjudication and comparison of sub-contractor quotations.
Initiate technical queries and ensure design sufficiently developed to ensure accurate costings.
Risk management throughout the tender period and preparation of the tender Risk Register.
Value engineering throughout the design phase of design and build projects.
Presentation of the tender to be presented to senior management at tender settlement meetings including the highlighting of any major commercial issues of elevated risk.
Completion of tender documentation and submission of the tender.
Ensure a smooth handover of the project to the operational team.
To support and be familiar with own role and responsibility in respect of Business Continuity Planning.
Ensuring that team members are also aware of the plans and communicates same.
It is essential or preferrable that you have the following experience, qualifications or skills; Appropriate Construction related degree or similar (essential).
A minimum of 10-years' experience in a similar role.
Competent use of Microsoft packages e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (essential).
Extensive experience of analytical estimating across a broad spectrum, up to a value of £25m.
All forms of contract including traditional, partnering, design & build, 2 stage tenders and frameworks (essential).
Experience of using estimating software (essential).
Well-developed Technical Construction Knowledge (essential).
Knowledge of industry standards (essential).
Develop personal skills and capability through on-going training, experience, and mentoring.
Awareness of BIM.
Cost Planning.
Be able to build-up an estimating from first principals, understanding outputs, methodology to develop sequence and programme.
Compare outputs and sequence with the tender planner to compare and adjudicate.
