Senior Construction Estimator Location:Wembley Salary:Competitive, based on experience About the Company: Our client is a rapidly growing main contractor in the construction industry, with ambitious plans for significant expansion over the next three years.
They have a strong pipeline of high-profile projects and are looking for talented professionals to join their dynamic team.
The company specializes in delivering large, complex, multistorey building projects across both the private and public sectors, with a commitment to quality and excellence.
Job Purpose: The Senior Construction Estimator will be responsible for ensuring the financial viability of large-scale construction projects by producing accurate cost estimates.
You will lead the estimation process, manage tender submissions, value engineering, and work to optimize costs, all while mitigating financial risks.
As a key partner to project teams and stakeholders, youll ensure alignment of all cost aspects from project inception to completion.
Key Responsibilities: Cost Estimation & Analysis - Lead the preparation of accurate cost estimates for high-rise construction projects, including materials, labor, plant, and subcontractor costs.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs and cost analysis for all project phases.
Tender Preparation & Submission - Develop comprehensive and competitive tender proposals, ensuring compliance with client requirements and deadlines.
- Review project specifications, architectural drawings, and contracts to identify key deliverables and potential risks.
Value Engineering & Cost Optimization - Provide value engineering solutions to optimize project costs without compromising on quality or design.
- Collaborate with design teams to identify cost-effective construction methods and materials.
Risk Assessment & Mitigation - Conduct risk assessments to identify potential cost overruns, scope changes, and timeline challenges.
- Develop strategies to mitigate financial risks and manage unforeseen costs effectively.
Subcontractor Management & Negotiation - Source and evaluate subcontractors and suppliers, negotiating contracts to ensure best value.
- Oversee subcontractor performance in relation to budget, quality, and schedule requirements.
Collaboration with Project Teams - Work closely with project management and site teams to ensure cost estimates align with execution plans.
- Regularly update the project team on financial aspects to ensure cost control throughout the project.
Market Research & Benchmarking - Stay informed on industry trends, market conditions, and material price fluctuations to enhance forecasting accuracy.
- Maintain a database of historical project costs for future reference.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement - Liaise with clients, consultants, and other stakeholders to discuss cost-related project requirements.
- Present detailed reports and financial models to support client decision-making.
Project Cost Monitoring & Reporting - Continuously monitor project costs, providing ongoing financial reporting and cost control measures.
- Identify and address variances between budgeted and actual costs during the construction phase.
Qualifications, Experience, Skills: Qualifications: - Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Membership in RICS, CIOB, or equivalent is preferred.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Asta Powerproject, CostX).
**Experience:** - 5-10 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on high-rise buildings.
- Proven experience working with a main contractor on large-scale projects.
- Expertise in tender documentation, cost planning, and value engineering.
- Experience managing subcontractor and supplier relationships.
Knowledge & Skills: - Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and regulations related to high-rise projects.
- Familiarity with building contracts (e.g., JCT, NEC).
- In-depth knowledge of market costs and construction industry trends.
- Excellent analytical, numerical, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Proficiency in reading architectural/engineering drawings.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to handle multiple tenders and lead a team effectively.
