The days of work for this position are Monday to Friday.
Salary up to £34,000 per annum.

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Environmental Compliance Officer to join our team at the Biffa West Sussex MBT plant.
As the Environmental Compliance Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring that the plant operations comply with all relevant environmental regulations and standards.
Your primary focus will be on monitoring, assessing, and reporting on various aspects of environmental compliance, with the goal of maintaining the highest standards of sustainability and minimizing the plant's environmental impact.

Environmental Compliance Monitoring: Conduct regular inspections and audits of the MBT Plant to assess compliance with environmental regulations, permits, and licenses.
Monitor air and water quality, waste management practices, noise levels, digestate quality and other relevant parameters.
Regulatory Compliance: Stay up to date with UK environmental legislation and regulations applicable to the MBT plant.
Interpret and communicate the requirements to plant personnel, ensuring full compliance in all operational activities.
Permitting and Reporting: Oversee the preparation and submission of environmental permits, registrations, and reports to the appropriate regulatory bodies.
Ensure accurate and timely reporting of environmental performance indicators, such as emissions, waste returns, and energy consumption.
Environmental Impact Assessments: Coordinate and conduct environmental impact assessments for new projects, modifications, or expansions of the MBT plant.
Identify potential environmental risks and develop mitigation strategies.
Training and Awareness: Develop and deliver training programs to educate plant staff on environmental policies, procedures, and best practices.
Promote environmental awareness and encourage employee engagement in sustainability initiatives.
Incident Management: Respond promptly to environmental incidents or emergencies, investigate their causes, and implement corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
Liaise with relevant authorities, agencies, and stakeholders as required.
Environmental Management Systems: Contribute to the development, implementation, and maintenance of an effective Environmental Management System (EMS).
Continuously evaluate and improve environmental performance by recommending and implementing sustainable practices.
Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including local communities, regulatory agencies, and environmental organizations.
Represent the MBT plant in discussions and meetings related to environmental compliance matters.
Improvement activities: Engage with the engineering teams to improve and optimise the odour control systems.
Requirements Here's what we require: NEBOSH Environmental Management (or working towards) This position could be very suitable for a recent graduate.
Experience of working in waste management and / or anaerobic digestion plants.
Laboratory experience – understanding solid / liquid sampling and testing procedure.
Working knowledge of: - Odour control systems - Anaerobic digestion - Effluent treatment - Emissions monitoring.
Desirable: Bachelor's degree or higher in environmental science, engineering, or a related field.
