Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Officer / Manager Location: United Kingdom
Sector: Furniture Manufacturing
Reports To: Site Leadership Team
Collaboration With: Group EHS Team (Mexico & USA)
Overview We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to oversee and enhance the EHS programs across our three UK-based facilities:
Nelson : A warehousing and distribution hub.
The Wood Mill : Processes raw materials into frames for sofas, chairs, and footstools.
Main Factory : Comprising fabric cutting, sewing, poly sorting, fibre blowing, cushion filling, upholstery, assembly, inspection, mechanism assembly, loading bay, and offices.
This is a hands-on role that requires a proactive individual to lead safety initiatives, monitor compliance, and ensure a safe working environment for all employees.

Key Responsibilities EHS Strategy & Implementation Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs tailored to each site's operations.
Ensure compliance with UK health, safety, and environmental regulations (e.g., HSE regulations).
Liaise with the Group EHS team in Mexico and the USA to align local practices with global standards.
Health and Safety Management Conduct regular site risk assessments, focusing on key hazards such as noise, dust levels, temperature, and manual handling weight limits.
Monitor and mitigate environmental risks associated with production processes, materials, and equipment.
Drive initiatives to improve workplace ergonomics and reduce incidents of repetitive strain and other workplace injuries.
Incident Reporting & Prevention Investigate all accidents, near-misses, and incidents to identify root causes and develop preventative measures.
Prepare and present detailed reports on incidents and trends to the site leadership team.
Collaborate with site teams to embed a safety-first culture and reduce accident prevalence.
Maintenance and Engineering Collaboration Work directly with or oversee the Maintenance Engineer to ensure the safe operation and upkeep of machinery and equipment.
Oversee routine inspections of critical systems, including dust extraction, noise abatement, and temperature control.
Training and Awareness Deliver EHS training to employees, including toolbox talks, emergency response training, and hazard awareness.
Promote engagement initiatives to encourage proactive reporting of hazards and near-misses.
Data & Compliance Management Maintain accurate records of audits, inspections, training, and incidents.
Ensure compliance with applicable environmental permits, licenses, and reporting requirements.
Support sustainability initiatives to reduce waste, energy consumption, and emissions across sites.
Cross-Site Coordination Regularly visit all three sites to assess EHS practices and provide tailored support.
Work flexibly to accommodate time zone differences when collaborating with the Group EHS team.
Qualifications and Skills Education : NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent qualification in Occupational Health and Safety.

Experience :
Proven track record in an EHS management role, ideally within manufacturing or warehousing environments.
Familiarity with furniture manufacturing processes is a plus.
Technical Skills :
Strong knowledge of UK EHS legislation and standards.
Expertise in risk assessments, accident investigations, and hazard control.
Ability to use EHS management systems for data tracking and analysis.
Soft Skills :
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with employees across all levels.
Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
Ability to adapt to and align with global EHS frameworks.
Working Conditions Travel : Regular travel between Nelson, The Wood Mill (Colne), and the Main Factory (Colne).
Hours : Standard working hours Monday - Thursday 08:00 - 17:00, Friday 08:00 - 13:00 with occasional flexibility to collaborate with the Group EHS team in different time zones.
Physical Requirements : Ability to navigate production and warehouse environments and wear appropriate PPE as needed.
