Job summary We are seeking to appoint a full-time ENT Consultant with expertise in Oncological Head and Neck Surgery for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Main duties of the job This is an exciting new full time post attracting 10 programmed activities (PAs).
The successful applicant will be based at NUH although he/she may periodically be asked to provide support to King's Mill Hospital.
The service provides a comprehensive Head & Neck service to at least million residents of Nottingham, Mansfield and Lincolnshire.The Head and Neck oncological surgical service is currently provided by 3 oncological ENT Consultants and three Maxillofacial Consultants.
In addition, we have at least 2 other ENT consultants who undertake office-based procedures like transnasal oesophagoscopy (TNO) and laryngopharyngeal biopsies in the outpatient setting.The successful candidate will join a well established enthusiastic, friendly multidisciplinary and multiprofessional team.
For major head neck resections +/- reconstruction, ENT consultants often double up.
For those with significant experience and interest, there is an opportunity to develop the Trans-oral Robotic Surgery (TORS), transoral laser resection and participate in microvascular flap reconstruction.The post holder will work closely with colleagues from all related disciplines such as Maxillofacial team, Head & Neck Oncology, Speech & Language Therapy.
Development of a research and academic program will be encouraged.

Person Specification Professional Registration Essential Full GMC registration Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via: * CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview) * CESR or * European Community Rights CCT expected within 6 months of interview date Professional Qualifications/Development Essential FRCS (ORL HNS) or an equivalent higher surgical qualification in speciality Desirable Higher professional degree in relevant topic Clinical Skills/Experience Essential Substantial experience in head neck 2 week wait, oncological head neck surgery Able to communicate effectively and appropriately with patients, their families and other health professionals.
Desirable Fellowship level training within ENT head neck oncology Specific training in patient safety and/or human factors Specific training in communication skills Commitment to Trust Values and Behaviours Essential Able to demonstrate behaviours consistent with the Trust's "We are here for you" behavioural standards Management Skills Essential Completed a management course Able to develop, present and operationalise coherent ideas for service development/delivery.
Able to delegate appropriately Able to work in a team (both clinical and multi-disciplinary) & share administrative responsibilities Desirable Higher management degree or qualification or training Experience of change management Personal Skills/Qualities Essential Ability to relate and communicate effectively with professional colleagues, other staff at all times Able to delegate appropriately Personal integrity and reliability and probity Able to work flexibly in a changing health service Desirable Ability to innovate and develop new technology and methods Teaching, Audit & Research Essential Experience in delivering simulation based training and developing a temporal bone dry lab.
Experience in supervising allied healthcare professionals such as physician associates and clinical nurse practitioners.
Evidence of participation in Clinical Audit.
Able to teach and support junior staff effectively Desirable Higher teaching degree or qualification or training
