Main Stakeholders:Internal: Head of Operations, Head of Engineering, Technical Manager, Engineering Director, Finance BP, HR BP, Storekeepers, HS&E, Fleet Manager, Transcare, Training School, Route Performance, Trade Union, UKB PurchasingExternal: DVSA/OTC, TfL, Local PTA, Suppliers, Contractors, Service ProvidersRole Purpose:Oversee fleet maintenance and presentation in line with legislation, policies, and safety standards. Ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) are achieved efficiently and reliably.
Responsibilities:Lead and deliver engineering performance and service targetsManage engineering P&L, budget, and forecastingOversee workshop operations, shift planning, and payrollEnsure fleet maintenance, reliability, and complianceManage stores activities, warranties, and inventory KPIsDeliver technical training and maintain audit compliancePrepare and present reports (daily, weekly, period-end)Health & Safety:Ensure premises meet health, safety, and environmental standardsSupervise engineers, staff, and contractors with a duty of careConduct safety audits and ensure compliance with O-Licence requirementsCustomer:Ensure daily vehicle availability meets peak requirements and exceeds statutory standardsQuality:Analyse breakdown trends and implement improvement plansEnsure legal and company compliance in all records and auditsContinuous Improvement:Promote lean strategies and efficiency improvements, reducing waste where possiblePeople:Oversee recruitment, training, performance management, and staff developmentManage staff schedules, holidays, and operational needsFinancial:Monitor lost mileage, manage garage budgets, and contribute to business-critical projectsRequirements:Strong engineering background, ideally in the bus/HGV sectorExperience in leading teams, with excellent organisational and communication skillsKnowledge of health and safety, with proven problem-solving abilitiesThis job description sets out the main duties and responsibilities of the job-holder.
