Engineering Manager - Core Technology Integrations Job Title: Engineering Manager - Core Technology Integrations

Job Description IG's UK Division is seeking an exceptional technology lead for exciting new projects that will enable and deliver faster end-to-end products to better serve customers and drive growth.

As the successful candidate, you will be dissatisfied with the status quo, and determined to build better, safer, and faster. You will have hands-on experience in building financial systems in the enterprise and embedding modern engineering practices. You will have proven experience in effective coaching, coordinating complex projects, envisioning and evangelising enterprise architecture, and influencing decisions across technology teams and the business.

What you'll do: Partner with the UK commercial product leads to discover desirable, feasible, and viable customer-centric products, with a focus on initiatives requiring extension and decoupling of the Core Technology domain.
Monitor the performance of the 3rd party development team to ensure engineering best practices, quality code, and delivery at pace as benchmarked by DORA elite performance.
Lead and inspire the technical direction for the team. Drive the discovery of constraints and dependencies in IG's complex technology, tackle risks early, and ensure a focus on building working software.
Partner with IG Architects to think big by illustrating a future architecture vision that will provide greater autonomy for the UK to control its investment in the Core Technology that fuels its products and services, while accelerating future integrations.
Communicate progress and share success with the UK division, the Technology function and the wider organisation. Share learnings from projects undertaken back into IG's engineering and product communities to fuel continuous learning and raise the bar.
What you'll need for this role: Stakeholder management: Devises stakeholder management strategies to ensure effective engagement and communication across the team, other functions, external parties, and senior leadership. Evidence of ability to gain buy in and aligning people across the organisation to drive progress.
Leadership: Able to evidence knowledge and effective use of formal leadership techniques to coach and inspire the team, align cross-team activity, evangelise transformation, and deliver results. Experience managing a team, and developing individuals for performance.
Engineering: Experience embedding engineering best practices including continuous integration, test-driven development, trunk-based development, pair programming, DevOps mindset, shift left on security, quality, and observability, incrementalism, and iteration. Evidence of using data to fuel continuous improvement, for example, measuring DORA metrics to reach elite performance.
Hands-on technical skills: 10+ years experience in building new services, extending and improving legacy systems predominantly in a Java enterprise ecosystem with a more recent focus on containerisation and cloud migration. Can evidence building secure, performant, scalable, observable, and resilient systems with robust and accessible APIs.
A passion to do awesome things: Demonstrates a passion for their work and achieving ambitious things with their team. Determined to conquer challenges while ensuring backup options when the team hits blockers.
