Our Engineering client based in East Kilbride is looking for an experienced Purchasing and Supply Chain Specialist.
In this role, based at our Centre of Excellence in East Kilbride, nr. Glasgow, you will have the critical role of ensuring parts and materials are ordered and delivered on time, at the right cost and quality. The position is predominately office based, however you will be expected to travel to visit suppliers both in the UK and overseas and occasional visits to our other group's site in the south of France.
The role will report directly to the Finance controller and functionally to the group purchasing director.
Key Responsibilities: Procurement & Sourcing: Identify and evaluate suppliers based on quality, price, reliability, and delivery speed. Assess suppliers for their adherence to ethical practices, environmental sustainability, and social responsibility standards. Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing with suppliers to secure the best deals. Prepare and process purchase orders, requisitions, and other documents in accordance with company policies. Supplier Management: Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential suppliers. Ensure that suppliers comply with the company's sustainability and social responsibility requirements. Monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations. Resolve any issues related to delivery, quality, or cost with suppliers. Inventory Management: Monitor and manage inventory levels to ensure sufficient stock without overstocking. Implement strategies to minimize waste and reduce the environmental impact of inventory management. Coordinate with production and warehouse teams to forecast demand and adjust orders accordingly. Implement strategies for inventory optimization to reduce costs and improve efficiency. Cost Management: Analyze and track purchasing data to identify cost-saving opportunities. Prioritize cost-saving measures that also align with sustainability goals, such as sourcing eco-friendly materials or choosing energy-efficient logistics options. Develop and implement strategies to reduce procurement costs and improve profit margins. Ensure that all purchases are made within the allocated budget. Logistics & Delivery: Coordinate with logistics providers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of goods. Select logistics providers who demonstrate a commitment to reducing their carbon footprint and improving energy efficiency. Oversee the entire supply chain process to ensure that materials arrive on time and in good condition. Manage import/export activities, including compliance with international regulations. Compliance & Documentation: Ensure compliance with all company policies, as well as local and international regulations. Ensure procurement practices are in line with ethical, environmental, and social governance (ESG) standards. Maintain accurate records of all procurement activities, including purchase orders, contracts, and supplier communications. Prepare reports and provide insights to management on procurement performance and supplier issues. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor's degree in Procurement / Supply Chain Management. Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in procurement, supply chain. Skills: Strong negotiation and communication skills. Proficient in SAP B1 software or equivalent and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to analyze data and make strategic decisions. Knowledge of sustainability practices and their application in supply chain management. Understanding of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria. Knowledge of supply chain management principles and best practices. Understanding of international trade regulations and compliance. Attention to Detail: Meticulous in reviewing contracts, purchase orders, and inventory levels. Problem-Solving: Ability to quickly address and resolve supply chain issues. Ethical and Sustainable Decision-Making: Strong commitment to making procurement decisions that prioritize ethical practices and sustainability. Work Environment: This position typically operates in an office environment, with occasional travel to suppliers and industry events.
A valid driver's license will be required.
