In this exciting role, you will be responsible for developing, negotiating, and implementing contracts to purchase electricity and gas exported to the Grid by generators, along with associated benefits, including green certificates.
You will work closely with a range of stakeholders, from renewable energy developers to banks and legal teams, to ensure optimal commercial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities Business Development: Establish relationships with potential new business partners, including banks, financiers, consultants, lawyers, and direct customers.
Maintain and grow existing relationships with current customers, actively participating in meetings, events, and networking opportunities.
Account Management: Manage and develop long-term customer relationships, ensuring satisfaction and identifying new opportunities for business growth.
Portfolio Development: Originate Power, Gas, and Renewable Certificates (including PPAs) and propose deals to internal stakeholders to gain necessary approvals.
Follow internal governance processes, including writing investment proposals and presenting to senior management and boards.
Contract Development and Legal Review: Work closely with the Legal department to tailor customer-specific contracts, ensuring alignment with business objectives and maintaining the company's commercial interests.
Review and negotiate terms and conditions of contracts, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and business goals.
Investment Appraisal and Financial Modelling: Build financial models to forecast expected margins and expenditure for proposed contracts, ensuring profitability and aligning with company targets.
Process Improvement: Identify and implement process improvements to ensure internal workflows are efficient and aligned with business needs.
Product Development: Provide insights to the Product Development team to help shape and refine market-leading Export Products, PPAs, and Corporate PPAs.
Risk Management: Adhere to the company's risk policy and frameworks while assisting in the creation and management of risk mitigation strategies for contracts and projects.
Key Requirements Experience in Sales/Deal Negotiation: Proven track record in negotiating complex contracts, particularly in the energy sector.
Energy Industry Experience: Deep understanding of the energy industry, including both the wholesale and retail energy markets.
Contract Development Expertise: Demonstrated experience in contract development and management, with a focus on renewable energy and long-term agreements.
Complex Environment Success: Proven ability to thrive in complex, multi-stakeholder environments with competing interests.
Relevant Academic Background: A degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., Energy, Business, Economics, Law, or Engineering) or equivalent practical experience.
Strong Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate and structure long-term contracts, including multiparty agreements involving developers, investors, banks, and legal teams.
Legislative and Regulatory Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of current and future legislation impacting the renewable energy market, including environmental regulations and government policies.
Stakeholder Awareness: Strong understanding of the key drivers and requirements for renewable generation developers, lawyers, banks, and equity investors.
Customer-Centric Approach: Ability to identify and reconcile business and customer needs to create bespoke products and develop current Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) offerings.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex contract opportunities and proposals to senior management and other key stakeholders.
