#JoinTeamEliot Main duties of the job Professional/Clinical The post holder will work autonomously having clinical and managerial responsibilities for the Endoscopy Unit.
Clinical responsibilities Autonomously lead and independently manage a caseload of patients directly referred to the nurse-led endoscopy lists.
Performing clinical examination, history taking, diagnostic and therapeutic flexible sigmoidoscopy, colonoscopy and OGD.
Having responsibility for interpreting results and requesting further investigations as required , organising staging chest/abdominal/pelvic CT/MRI scans for those patients with malignant looking lesions.
Non-Clinical responsibilities To plan and prioritise own workload and manage time effectively, when working alone or in collaboration with others.
Where appropriate, delegate work effectively setting clear parameters of responsibility.
Communication, relationship skills & teamwork Communicate with patients at the appropriate level of understanding about issues surrounding their medical condition, whilst maintaining patient confidentiality.
Ensure that they understand the rationale for their care and consequences and alternatives.
As far as possible ensure that the patient understands the information given to them, overcoming any barriers to understanding , learning difficulties, deafness, cultural background etc.

Apply advanced interpersonal counselling skills to inform patients and carers of complex, often distressing information, whilst providing support and empathy, as well as being a source of information.
Liaise effectively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team to achieve a coordinated specialist service for patients; including verbal and written reports/consultations on a regular basis.
Compile comprehensive medical reports/letters to GPs following investigation andtreatment.
Participation in the review of patient advice leaflets.
Work in close liaison with the Service Manager and endoscopy administration office in the timely processing of admission of patients and the appropriate case mix.
Liaise with the Consultants and medical staff to promote the provision of effective care and efficient utilisation of facilities.
Promote a calm and efficient atmosphere for individualised patient care within the endoscopy session and provide a helpful and confident approach to patients, carers, staff and other members of the public.
Seek supervision to ensure that personal clinical practice is continuously developing.
Planning and Organisation Responsible for the effective management of allocated resources/delegated budget.
Ensuring all appropriate planning is in place to cover dropped endoscopy list each week.
Arranging staffing for WLI and working with partnership organisations to provide WLI lists.
Ensuring appropriate skill mix on all endoscopy lists undertaken.
Ensuring timely completion of all service maintenance.
Ensuring and maintaining appropriate stock levels are adhered to and reporting any discrepancies.
Providing timely provision of access to emergency endoscopy.
Education & Training Participate in the delivery of educational programmes for staff in all the Trusts endoscopy sites to promote best practice and to support service improvement and development.
Provide mentorship to junior colleagues to ensure the timely completion of JAG approved training.
Provide mentorship to all colleagues that work in the service recognising staffs individual needs and ensuring appropriate support is available to all them.
Lead the service to create a culture of continual professional development.
Work with senior colleagues within the department to develop a highly skilled, motivated and flexible workforce to deliver the highest standards of care whilst maintaining the ability to meet the challenges faced by an evolving service.
Actively contribute to the Trusts Research and Development programme, participating in and initiating research and development, disseminating findings and undertaking regular reviews with all staff to ensure clinically effective care provision.
Provide patient and carer education and health promotion by raising awareness of illness related issues.
Act as an education resource for all disciplines on gastrointestinal pathology, treatment and care within realms of specialist practice.
Promote a culture and environment which facilitates lifelong learning within the multi-professional team.
To act as a professional supervisor for new team members and training posts within the team and utilise clinical supervision and reflective practice skills to enhance development of self and colleagues in the team to optimise care.
In collaboration with the Learning and Development Team, lead and manage the initiation, development, implementation and evaluation of endoscopy development programmes in response to identified nursing practice issues.

Person Specification Qualification(s) and Professional Training Essential RGN / RMN Teaching qualification (eg 998) Post Grad Qualification in Specialty or appropriate experience Desirable Willing to work towards a specialist qualification Experience and Knowledge Essential Significant experience at Band 7 or equivalent.
Experience within the specialty.
Evidence of continuing professional development.
Ability to manage a Team Budget Holder for the Department.
