Salary: £29,808 per annum Hours: Full time 36.5 hours per week Location: Birmingham Contract type: Fixed term until March 2025 The Active Wellbeing Society (TAWS) is a community benefit society and cooperative working to develop healthy, happy communities living active and connected lives.
We provide a wide range of services and programmes that support people's mental and physical wellbeing. Services include community food support, telephone advice and listening services, physical and social activity programmes, social prescribing services and community development and engagement programmes.
We also run virtual wellbeing support programmes for patients and citizens.
This role is responsible for the coordination and delivery of emergency food relief, in particular providing hot/healthy food for people living in emergency/temporary accommodation. The role will require excellent delivery and engagement skills on the ground with communities and key stakeholders. Experience in cooking in volume (300+ a day) and for diverse communities is required.
Experience of kitchen management, people management and budget management is also required.
Main duties Ensure that hot, healthy food is delivered to identified locations where people are living in emergency/temporary accommodation – up to 300 meals a day Work with the Delivery Manager and Community café lead to ensure that the equipment, ingredients, kitchen capacity for the Emergency Food projects are planned for in advance so that there is minimal disruption to the cafes Work with the team and wider organisation to support and develop communities within the city, especially those that are the most deprived, and/or the least active.
Line manage a small team and liaise with the Delivery Manager to ensure the rota is accurate and adhered to.
Manage budgets and contracts effectively in conjunction with the Food Delivery Manager.
Knowledge, skills and experience Experience of managing a team of cooks Qualified to at least level 3 food and hygiene Willingness to drive large vans and tow a trailer Knowledge and experience of cooking and delivering quality food on a large scale to diverse communities Experience and understanding of community development principles, ideally through the medium of food Experience of working with waste and surplus food providers Track record of working autonomously and collaboratively in a dynamic, fast paced and challenging environment A genuine passion for the wellbeing of others and a drive to improve the lives of individuals and communities Benefits We offer our team members a comprehensive staff benefits offering to include: Annual Leave – 38 days!
