Emergency Department Major Trauma Lead Nurse

Job summary This innovative role has been developed to support the Emergency Department (ED) and inpatient specialties in managing those patients presenting with a Traumatic Injury.The post holder will be a senior clinical presence within the ED and on inpatient wards and will participate in the management and delivery of care to these patients.
Main duties of the job The Trauma Lead Nurse should be informed and attend major trauma patient attendances within their designated working hours ensuring and monitoring compliance with trauma pathways.The Trauma Lead Nurse will collect information regarding trauma calls, which have occurred whilst they are not present and have an overview of all major Trauma patients.The Lead Nurse will ensure effective coordination of the plan of care for all major trauma patients in the organisation regardless of which speciality they are admitted under.The Lead Nurse should acts as single point of contact for liaison with Major Trauma Centre's (MTC) and Trauma Unit's (TU) to arrange repatriations/transfers as per policy.Safety, Quality and service development including the Investigation and coordination of trauma-related incidents including the facilitation and dissemination of shared learning.Represents the Trust at regional/network level and lead on network wide audits.Participate in the development of local guidelines and monitor compliance.Coordinate staff training in relation to management of trauma ( equipment, ATLS, PILS etc.
in conjunction with the ED Practice Facilitator.Organise and facilitate stakeholder events as required including quarterly stakeholder meetings.Development of Trauma-related KPI's and compliance.
The lead nurse will be a member of the ED clinical team and as such may be expected to assist in general nursing duties during times of extreme demand.

Person Specification Education and qualifications Essential NMC registered Evidence of ongoing development related to speciality Assessor course or equivilant Desirable Trauma level 2 Educated to Degree level Knowledge and Experience Essential Demonstrable experience at Band 7 level in an Emergency Care setting Experience in Mentoring, Assessing and Coaching Leading a team Have experience of managing patients with traumatic injuries.
