Job summary We are looking to recruit an NVQ Level2 Dispensing Assistant with a keen eye for detail, to work alongside, andeventually replace (in 2026) our Dispensary Supervisor when she retires.
We area small, rural, dispensing doctors practice (4,700 patients) with 1,200patients that we directly dispense to.
The successful candidate will need the ability to work in abusy, multi-tasking environment and deliver excellent patient care, whilststill maintaining a profit-margin.
We are looking for 20 hours a week.
Main duties of the job Ultimately (when in the dispensary supervisor role) you would be responsible for the day-to-day staffing of the dispensary, normal dispensing duties and in addition maintaining the stock levels, maximising profit for the dispensary and ensuring compliance with legislation (CD's, toolkits etc) About us We are a rural GP Practice, serving the Four Marks area.
For the patients living more than a direct mile from a community pharmacy we can dispense to them from the practice.
The operation of an in-surgery dispensary differs slightly to a pharmacy as there is no pharmacist on-site and the dispensing staff check their dispensing against dispense-it software (all training provided)We need you to have a really strong self-motivated work ethic as the role is often on your own, although part of a team.If you like working in a friendly, happy workplace then our dispensary is for you!
Job description Job responsibilities Dispenser Role:Job Summary:To process all relevant prescriptions as authorised by GPs in accordance with the principles of good practice.Job Responsibilities: To ensure that all medicines and appliances dispensed are checked against the prescription and whenever there is doubt about the appropriateness of the item, or about the dose or labelling instructions to check with the authorising doctor or duty doctor.
To collect all due prescription charges and ensure that the patient declaration on the reverse of the FP10 is duly filled in and signed by the patient.
To ensure that all monies received or handled on behalf of the Practice are recorded by using the electronic till.
To endorse all prescription forms as appropriate.
To place orders within the necessary timescales to ensure prompt delivery.
To check all deliveries of stock against the accompanying invoice and deal with any errors or queries arising from the checking procedure.
To operate efficient stock control appropriate to the needs of the Practice with the objective of ensuring continuity of supply for patients and minimising wastage through out of date stock.
To ensure that drugs are stored in an appropriate manner in accordance with the accompanying instructions.
To ensure shelves and all work surfaces are regularly cleaned to maintain a high level of hygiene within the dispensary and that all dispensary equipment is kept clean and kept in good working order.
To take prompt action in response to any drug alert bulletins that may be received from time to time.
To ensure that refrigerated items are stored at the appropriate temperature and to maintain a temperature control record/logbook.
To maintain full and accurate records of all dispensing transactions incorporating the use of computers when available and appropriate.
To undertake any necessary work as may be required and appropriate to maintain a high standard and efficient dispensing service.Sorting prescriptions, checking endorsements, preparing forms and when necessary, submitting prescriptions monthly to the Prescription Pricing Authority (PPA).Additional ResponsibilitiesTo ensure that direct order items are stocked to appropriate levelsTo help achieve profitability in the dispensaryTo liaise with wholesaler/drug firms when dispensing issues ariseTo carry out monthly checks of CD book & Drs & Treatment Room bags & cupboardsTo ensure that prescriptions are submitted to PPA correctly and on timeTo check wholesaler statements against invoicesTo assist with the training of new dispensersTo check duplicate barcodes on Dispens-ItTo record VAT relating to Personally Administered itemsConfidentiality:In the course of seeking treatment, patients entrust us with, or allow us to gather, sensitive information in relation to their health and other matters.

Person Specification Experience Essential Experience dispensing in a pharmacy Desirable Experience of working in a GP practice, but this is not essential.
