The Role As a Disability Benefits Officer, you will support our residents in accessing critical disability benefits, including Personal Independence Payment (PIP), Attendance Allowance, and Disability Living Allowance for Children (DLA).
You will work closely with residents who have health conditions or disabilities, ensuring they receive the financial support they are entitled to.
Your responsibilities will include: Assisting residents with completing applications for disability benefits, ensuring eligibility, and supporting them through the claims process.
Representing residents at tribunals and attending health assessments where required.
Building and maintaining strong relationships with external partners such as the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), Capita, and ATOS.
Assessing medical evidence to determine eligibility for benefits and making decisions accordingly.
Identifying residents at risk due to welfare reforms and working with colleagues to provide additional support.
Maintaining accurate records and reports using IT systems and managing your workload effectively to meet performance targets.
You will also contribute to team meetings and proactively identify opportunities for service improvement.
To succeed in this role, you should have: A strong knowledge of disability benefits (PIP, DLA, Attendance Allowance) or experience in a medical professional background.
Proven experience in a customer-facing role, ideally within a high-pressure environment.
Strong communication and written skills, with the ability to assess and manage complex cases.
Experience of working with IT systems for record keeping, report writing, and data entry.
An understanding of safeguarding procedures and a commitment to ensuring customer welfare.
Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload effectively.
A DBS check and a full driver's license with access to your own vehicle.
