Job description Job responsibilities Marie Curie is the UKs leading end-of-life charity.
We are the largest non-NHS provider of palliative and end-of-life care in the UK, the only provider across all 4 nations, delivering community nursing and hospice care, including innovations in clinical service models with system partners across place-based geographies and devolved nations.We provide information and support on all aspects of dying, death, and bereavement.
Our leading research pushes the boundaries of what we know about good end-of-life, and our campaigns fight for a world where everyone gets to have the best possible quality of life while living with an illness they're likely to die from.The care and support we provide is highly valued by the people we care for and their loved ones, but at present we are only reaching around 10% of dying people at the end of life.Right now, one in four people in the UK with a terminal illness, do not get the care or support they deserve at the end of their lives.
We want a different society than the one we live in now.Our mission for the next five years is to close the gap in the number of people missing out on what they need at the end-of-life, through 3 ways:Growing and transforming our direct care and supportDelivering more practical information and supportLeading in shaping the end-of-life experienceYour role in our missionAs Director of Nursing & Quality, you will be at the heart of everything we do, driving forward our mission to provide exceptional support to people and families facing terminal illness.This is not just a job; it's a calling to lead change, empower teams, and ensure that dignity, respect, and kindness remain at the centre of care.Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, the Director of Nursing and Quality is accountable for the delivery of the professional nursing and AHP agenda and will provide strong visible professional leadership to Nurses, Healthcare Assistants and AHPs across all settings encouraging innovation, creativity and strategic thinking about service provision.As a senior clinical leader, the Director of Nursing and Quality will contribute to the wider decision-making and strategy development at Marie Curie.
You will support the Chief Nursing Officer with the transformation delivery and development of clinical services aligned to the Marie Curie National Service Framework.Your primary role will be to ensure that the organisation is meeting its statutory requirements in respect to Infection Prevention and Control, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults and Children and Health and Safety.The role will assume delegated responsibility from the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) for operational management of the Nursing and Quality Directorate, directly leading and managing the Associate Directors of Nursing in delivery of the CNO portfolio, including, Quality; Clinical Practice & Education; Patient Safety & Experience, the Head of Safeguarding and the Freedom to Speak up Guardian.This is an ideal career opportunity for a 1st level Registered Nurse (Adult) with significant experience of leading clinical service and professional teams in health care environments at a strategic level.Additional Criteria for Success:- Evidence of continuing professional/ leadership development management qualification + relevant master's level qualification.- Significant senior nurse leadership experience either at Deputy DoN level or divisional level acute hospital leadership experience- Significant experience of working in health care environments at a senior level, with Board/sub board experience.- Significant experience of managing large, complex services, including solving a range of complex operational and strategic challenges, with reasoned debate and negotiations over potentially contentious issues and credibility in generating solutions- Demonstrate solid professional decision-making ability, to manage complex professional issues- Ability to work effectively within a matrix organisation- Demonstrates breadth and depth of understanding of current clinical quality and health care policy and ability to develop and implement corporate strategies and policies- Proven ability of delivering against set objectives and achieving key organisational targets, demonstrating continuous performance and quality improvement, and taking remedial action- Proven evidence of developing and leading Quality Assurance programmes, systems and processes- Experience in a palliative/ life limiting/ end of life care setting- Experience in recruitment, career development and performance management- Determination to achieve high standards and strive to deliver improvement in patient care across the organisation.- Ability to command confidence of internal and external colleagues and stakeholdersWhat's in it for you:- Salary between £85,000 - £95,000 DOE- Annual leave allowance 25 days plus 8 public holidays (pro rata)- Hybrid working- Competitive Policy for parental/sick Leave- Continuous Professional development- Industry leading training programmes- Season ticket loan for travelling to and from work- Defined contribution schemes for Pension- Marie Curie Group Personal Pension Scheme- Loan schemes for bikes; computers and satellite navigation systems- Introduce a friend scheme- Help with eyecare costs- Entitled to Marie Curie Blue Light Card- Entitled to Benefit-Hub Discount Scheme- Life assurance for all employeesTo Apply:Please upload your most recent CV and a cover letter detailing your experience, how you meet the person specification and why you would like to work for Marie Curie.For more information please contact our Talent Acquisition Partner, Karley Vye at Closing Date: Monday 3rd FebInterview Date: Wednesday 12th FebMarie Curie is committed to its values, which underpin our work.
