This role serves as the key leader responsible for driving logistics excellence across the entire supply chain, working with both internal and external stakeholders to ensure the seamless and timely delivery of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) globally.
The Director will oversee the full project pipeline, continuously optimizing logistics processes, and driving innovation to support the company's growth in clean energy.
The Director will also play a critical role in the development of long-term logistics strategies, enhancing infrastructure, managing partnerships, and ensuring adherence to all regulatory requirements.
This role requires a deep understanding of international trade, transportation, and supply chain management, with a focus on continuous improvement, cost efficiency, and risk mitigation.
Primary Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement comprehensive logistics strategies aligned with the company's growth objectives, ensuring cost-effective and timely delivery of energy storage systems globally.
Team Management: Lead and mentor a high-performing logistics team, fostering a culture of accountability, operational excellence, and innovation.
Ensure that the team has the tools and resources needed to execute effectively.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with Project Management, Sales, Supply Chain, Operations, and external customers to ensure seamless coordination of logistics activities across global regions.
Oversee import/export process while coordinate with the Asian suppliers for the US manufacturing facility.
Vendor & Partner Management: Establish and maintain strong relationships with freight forwarders, customs brokers, ports, 3PL providers, and carriers.
Negotiate contracts and manage performance metrics to ensure delivery efficiency and cost optimization.
Logistics Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements across the logistics function, including adopting new technologies, automating processes, and improving visibility of shipments.
Drive the use of tools like TMS (Transportation Management Systems) and WMS (Warehouse Management Systems) to improve logistics efficiency and reporting.
Risk Management: Lead the resolution of logistics challenges, including delays, damage investigations, and insurance claims.
Develop contingency plans for potential risks, ensuring business continuity and minimal disruptions.
Reporting & Analytics: Develop and manage logistics KPIs, publish comprehensive dashboards that track delivery progress, carrier performance, cost analysis, and inventory management.
Provide leadership with actionable insights for decision-making.
Project Execution: Oversee logistics planning and execution for high-priority projects, ensuring all shipments comply with global regulations (including DOT, Hazmat, and lithium battery transport laws).
Coordinate site visits and inspections with internal and external stakeholders as needed.
Inventory Control & Reverse Logistics: Take full responsibility for inventory accuracy and control, including the management of spare parts and reverse logistics programs.
Ensure timely reconciliation of returns and performance monitoring.
Compliance & Audits: Ensure strict compliance with all international trade laws, transportation regulations, and environmental standards related to energy storage products.
Support finance with internal audit requirements as needed.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Research and implement cutting-edge logistics solutions, including automation tools, data analytics platforms, and sustainable practices.
Lead initiatives to improve logistics infrastructure and systems, positioning the company at the forefront of clean energy logistics.
Qualifications and Experience: 10+ years of experience in logistics and supply chain, with a proven track record in both domestic and international operations, preferably in the energy or clean technology sector.
Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field; an advanced degree (MBA or Master's in Supply Chain) is highly preferred.
Extensive experience with ERP systems (SAP preferred) and strong knowledge of Smart Sheets, cloud-based software, and logistics tools (TMS, WMS).
Demonstrated expertise in battery energy storage systems (BESS) logistics, including familiarity with Hazmat and lithium battery transport regulations.
Strong technical skills, with advanced Excel capabilities (Pivot Tables, V-Lookups, Formulas & Functions) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, MS Project, Visio).
Proven ability to develop and manage large-scale RFP processes, negotiate logistics contracts, and lead quarterly business reviews (QBRs) with key suppliers and carriers.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships across multiple teams, partners, and cultures.
Results-driven, with the ability to manage complex projects, prioritize tasks, and ensure the highest standards of operational excellence.
Strong understanding of trade regulations, customs compliance, and global freight management.
Willingness to travel globally (15-20%) and work flexible hours to accommodate cross-regional time zones.
