As the Director of Development you will be responsible for the origination and development of Eku's Energy storage assets across EMEA from inception through financial close. You will be responsible for determining our approach to development in EMEA, leading new market entry activities and creating a risk managed pipeline of projects by utilising multiple origination strategies (green field, acquisitions, partnerships). You will champion projects internally and work with cross functional teams to ensure that projects have appropriate commercialisation pathways and are progressing towards an investable business case.
You'll be accountable for the management of our existing development team, while continuing to build out our development capability, and ensuring the efficient allocation of resources with the right competence to projects, ensuring effective progress of projects towards and through to financial investment decision.
Based in London, Milan or Germany, you will have a hands-on and flexible approach to the achievement of shared targets across a global business. You will be expected to work independently and collaboratively to deliver results as part of a team.
Responsibilities of the roleIn this pivotal role, you will be key to the success of our projects.
Key responsibilities include:
Manage and lead the EMEA development function and ensure integration of the team across the business. Development of the project related elements of our European country level business plans. Management of country level DevEx budgets and associated reporting with a key focus on minimising sunk DevEx. Be accountable for preparation and approval of all project development plans, schedules and budgets. Analysis and origination of project leads, ensuring high quality projects on attractive commercial terms are continually added to our target market pipelines in accordance with regional pipeline strategy and targets. Providing leadership and strategic direction to development managers ensuring our pipeline of projects are developed efficiently to ensure development capital invested maximises value for our shareholders. Responsible for ensuring the trading and investment management teams are aligned on the development strategy for each project which includes a clear pathway to commercialisation with an investable business case. Responsible for ensuring all projects are appropriately resourced including coordinating support and resource allocation from all departments and that key development decisions are made in coordination with appropriate business functions. Act as sponsor for the business case of projects as they progress through development and ultimately towards FID in collaboration with the investment management team. Ensure timely and cost-effective development of the portfolio of projects in accordance with safety, technical, environmental, community and operational requirements. Drive the continuous improvement of project development, tools and templates and the teams project management and delivery capabilities. Minimum Requirements You will have a minimum of ten years' relevant experience working on the development of energy and infrastructure projects, preferably in the renewables sector. You will bring extensive experience as a project developer with a demonstrated track record of successful project management of all land, environmental, permitting, stakeholder management, initial engineering and grid connection activities of renewable projects up to the point of financial close. Strong commercial acumen with a track record of negotiating and executing a wide variety of project development related contracts. Have a strong understanding of key development risks and the ability to exercise judgement to inform how to prioritise resourcing and development capital across the portfolio. You will need to have a track record of effective stakeholder engagement, strong commercial acumen and present with the respect and authority needed to be the local lead and representative. As an experienced manager, you will be expected to lead and coach your team members to enhance their capability and career progression. You will be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of local laws & regulations, development procedures, and market practices. You will have an excellent academic record and a bachelor's degree in a related field such as engineering, finance, law, science or a project management related qualification. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to liaise at all levels. You will need to be ambitious, motivated and have the drive to succeed.
