Responsibilities; Ensure design deliverables are clearly identified, understood, managed and tracked during the design and project execution phase.
Work collaboratively with the engineering and design teams to ensure that the portfolio of projects are delivered fit for purpose, on time, budget and specification to the highest quality and safety standards.
Take an active lead and manage design for both temporary and permanent works.
Manage Subcontractor design packages and technical approvals.
Provide advice and guidance on the buildability of the design proposals to the design and construction teams.
Ensure that design teams provide robust and optimal designs and documentation for each individual project inline with the MDR, internal procedures and client requirements.
Manage the design assurance process.
Support designers during tender development.
Responsible for ensuring the budget, programme and risks for the projects for each tender are adequate and provided in a timely manner.
Work collaboratively with key stakeholders and the client to ensure designs are reviewed and accepted and that project processes and risk procedures are followed correctly.
Work closely with the Construction Delivery Lead to provide input and guidance to the designers.
Responsible for project schedule and cost monitoring, reviewing, and reporting as well as leading the design interface.
Maintain an active lead and support the implementation of design efficiencies through the use of software, sustainability and collaboration.
Monitor design maturity and provide support to the commercial teams.
Identify and manage D&E project risks, implementing the necessary mitigations.
Establish and promote best practice in health, safety, sustainability, cost, time, buildability and appropriate quality matters.
Develop and refine processes within the team.
Refine and optimise alignment with document management systems.
Promote use of engineering expertise and advice to add value to the process of design development.
Implement 3D design delivery strategy - BIM Prepare, maintain and communicate design commissioning, commercial and delivery records.
Actively investigate emerging new techniques and technologies in design management and advise on suitable application within the area.
Perform peer review of technical proposals.
Ensuring compliance with the CDM 2015 requirements, for both internal and external designers.
Qualities; Practical experience of engineering through time on site or involvement in other engineering activities, including use of IT and digital construction.
Knowledge of 3D Design Delivery – including BIM Knowledge of design delivery processes gained through successful experience of design and design co-ordination role for projects or designer responsibility.
Knowledge of the work process in design offices through successful experience of design delivery coordination.
Knowledge of design standards and procedures; preferably with some knowledge and experience of temporary works systems, processes, and design.
Knowledge of National Grid Design Management standards preferable but not essential.
Experience of chairing Design Reviews and Hazard Reviews preferable but not essential.
