Purpose of the Role As a Signalling Designer you will be able to produce integrated non-principles design details for relevant parts of a new or altered signalling system or layout, within the limits of your Authority to Work.
You will be able to confirm that they meet the requirements provided in the scope of works and that the operational, technical and safety principles have been met.
As a Signalling Designer you will make use of design typical constructs to configure them into the particular implementation within defined boundaries.
If a Verifiers Licence is held, then it is expected that verification of the design detail will be carried out in accordance with the limitations of the designers Authority to Work.
Key Responsibilities Required to act as mentor to other less experienced, or junior engineers within the team.
Responsible for the preparation of Outline Project and Signalling Design Specifications.
To produce pre-feasibility and feasibility reports and present any fundamental findings of the report to the Client.
To assist with Signalling infrastructure condition assessment surveys and site surveys, and act as department liaison when other engineering disciplines and Client representatives are involved.
Act as department representative when providing design cover of signalling projects during the commissioning phase.
Assist with Testing and Commissioning when required.
Provide Signalling Design estimates; technical expertise and input for Signalling related proposals for new projects during feasibility and final detailed design stage.
Represent the company at Client meetings.
Have involvement throughout the project lifecycle from GRIP 1-8 acting as Designer / Verifier (if licence held) within the respective GRIP stages and within the limitations of the designers Authority to Work.
As you will expect the organisation may change from time to time and you will be expected to meet the operational requirements.
Any other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
Person Specification The job holder will have a background within the Signalling Industry, including good technical design knowledge.
Qualifications/Experience Minimum of HNC Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering.
Experience of producing Network Rail Grip 4 design deliverables is desirable.
Holding or working towards IRSE Designer Licence.
Membership of IRSE is desirable.
Engineering focused.
Awareness of cross discipline engineering issues.
Effective communicator.
Has an understanding of commercial principles.
