Job description Job responsibilities The role of Clinical Lead for the Primary CareDermatology Service presents an exciting opportunity to collaborate within aninnovative partnership involving Integrated Primary Care Ltd (IPC), SouthWarwickshire GP Federation (SWGP Fed), and Consultation Connect (CC).
Eachorganisation plays a distinct role in this service: SWGP Fed lead the servicedelivery, CC provides consultation support, and IPC is responsible for thecontract agreement with the Integrated Care Board (ICB).A vital characteristic of the Clinical Lead is tohave a keen interest and specialism in Dermatology and in Primary Care, with adesire to create a strong team who feel passionately about improving access tohealth in the community.The PrimaryCare Dermatology Clinical Lead will need to engage with multiple stakeholdersand partners across primary and secondary care to enable the service to deliverexceptional care.
The Clinical Lead will offer clinical guidance andoversight to the dermatology support team and to clinicians working in theservice; ensuring the service remains clinically current and help define andrefine the ongoing delivery of PCDS.Activities: Supportclinical aspects of the service, attending necessary operational meetings, whenappropriate.Ensuring the clinical teamare following the latest clinical guidance.Provide clinical supportfor the strategic development of PCDS.Provideclinical leadership and oversight to the development of the service metrics andthe evaluation of the service.Be the services clinicalgovernance lead, continuously improving the quality of services whilstsafeguarding high standards.Oversee clinical deliveryof the PCDS services, ensuring the processes are effective and meet the needsof the organisation, general practice, and patients.Work with DermatologyConsultants within secondary care and Consultant Connect to ensure theyunderstand the service being provided and what we are trying to achieve.Engage with third parties(for example: Acute Trusts/Consultant Connect) to obtain appropriate supportwhen needed.Involvement in theassessing & recruitment of new doctors to work within the PCDS service.Act as theprimary/secondary care clinical interface for the service.
Deliverclinical sessions within the service as needed or scheduled.
Managingacute results and workflow if other primary care dermatology GPs areunavailable.
Providingclinical support/supervision/escalation for the PCDS service.
Triagingpatients from ERS to make sure suitable for PCDS.Clinical Lead Responsibilities:PCDS Development & Strategy: As the PCDS grows and becomes an established partof the primary care flow; it will be key that the Clinical Lead contributes tothe overall direction and development of the PCDS so that the organisation hasa clear strategy and direction that is consistent with NHS priorities inPrimary and Secondary Care, and ICB Funding intentions.Service Plans:Contribute to the development and review of the PCDSplans to ensure that they are consistent with the service priorities anddirection, NHS priorities, ICB Funding intentions and stakeholder requirementsand the service is successfully delivered in accordance with agreed internaland external measures of performance.Leadership:Provide clear professional leadership to the PCDS andits staff, ensuring that performance is appropriately managed through an agreedframework, in order to ensure an efficient, effective and engagedworkforce.Continuous Improvement:Lead and ensure the development of new and innovativepractice across the organisation to ensure the continuous improvement of PCDSefficiency and effectiveness and the development of high standards of patientservices and internal customer support.Risk and Governance:Ensure that all regulatory and risk managementrequirements are satisfied and to direct the development of systems, controlprocesses which will establish safe and consistent service delivery andmonitoring arrangements.
Ensure a framework is in place to ensure any remedialaction is promptly taken where unacceptable risks are identified.Escalations:Participate in the services emergency plan,providing appropriate Clinical Leadership in the event of unexpected serviceissues or major disaster in compliance with the business continuity plans.Representing PCDS:Act as an ambassador for the service andorganisation, ensuring that the needs and views of the organisation are fairlyrepresented in external (including national, and local sector) forums and thatopportunities are taken to enhance the reputation of the service andorganisation and realise business development opportunities.Service PlanningWorkingin conjunction with Executive and Project team to ensure PCDS delivers itscontractual obligations in respect of clinical input in line with agreedclinical pathways, activity volumes, patientsafety and quality.
That PCDS provides a range of services that is appropriateand sustainable and that any proposed changes or developments are clinicallysound.ProfessionalAdvice and LeadershipProvideappropriate professional and Clinical Leadership and be the officer responsiblefor supervising the conduct and performance of all clinical and patient facingstaff within PCDS service.Representthe views of clinicians to the PCDS programme team and if appropriate to theExecutive team and the Board.Promotethe need for continuous improvement and excellence in the provision of clinicalservices throughout the organisation.Bethe PCDS medical voice, network and consult with local GPS and healthcareprofessionals where appropriate.GeneralDuties & ResponsibilitiesTheduties and responsibilities in this job description are neither exclusive norexhaustive and will be updated on a regular basis as part of the appraisalreview process and may be amended in the light of changing circumstancesfollowing consultation with the post holder.Workwithin and meet the requirements the NHS and SWGP Federation code of conduct,and to have due regard to the Duty of Candour.Tooperate with due regard to the PCDS and SWGP Federation values and inaccordance with the organisations agreed standards of behaviours.
