Job summary We are looking to recruit a Consultant Clinical Scientist with significant experience in either Diagnostic Radiology, Radiation Safety or Nuclear Medicine Physics.
The post holder must be an RPA2000 registered Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in their specialism and be able to advise the employing Trusts and their contracted customers.
The ideal candidate must also be an RPA2000 Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) or Radioactive Waste Advisor (or both) within their specialty, or be on a short timescale pathway to achieving this status.
It is also essential that the applicant has wide experience of and can offer leadership within the areas of Radiation Physics outside their own specialty.

More detail about the role The Clinical and Radiation Physics team is part of the SEND (South, East and North Devon) Medical Physics network.
Clinical and Radiation Physics services are based in both the Royal Devon University Hospital NHS FT (RDUH) in Exeter and the Torbay and South Devon NHS FT (TSD) in Torquay.
Both departments provide Nuclear Medicine, Diagnostic Radiology and Radiation Safety Services across the SEND geographic area to both NHS and non-NHS customers.
This position is based within the RDUH service at the Exeter (Wonford) site.
In pursuit of the deputy role to the Head of CRP (SEND), some work will be required at the Torbay site.
It is anticipated this will cover deputy operational and legal compliance support up to one day per week, by negotiation.
Also, by discussion with the postholder, this will be a combination of remote and on site working as necessary to the proper fulfilment of the role.
There is also a requirement for occasional on site working at the RDUH North Devon (Barnstaple) hospital site.
There are busy Radiology departments at the RDUH Eastern (Exeter) and Northern (Barnstaple) sites and in Torbay and South Devon.
Nuclear Medicine services are also provided at the RDUH Eastern and TSD sites and are also supported by Medical Physics.
The team also provides medical physics services to the NHS Breast Screening Programme, Cardiology departments at Exeter and Torbay, community hospitals, dentists and vets and PET-CT at the Mireille Gillings Neuroimaging Centre, part of the University of Exeter.
There are significant redevelopment plans in progress across the area.
Both North Devon and Torbay Trusts have major redevelopment plans and the Exeter Nightingale Hospital has been repurposed as a community diagnostic hub with additional hubs at Torbay and North Devon.
Applicants for appointment at Band 8c will have appropriate HCPC registration, significant relevant leadership experience in their specialty and a current certificate of recognition as an MPE and RPA or RWA.
Status as a certificated RPA and RWA would be an advantage.
Applications are also invited from individuals with less relevant experience who may be considered for appointment at a lower band.
A full driving licence is required for this position and access to an appropriate vehicle for the carriage of test equipment within the network.
The RDUH department encourages staff training and development and is an accredited training centre for the STP training scheme.
We also support apprentices within CRP and have current accreditation for HSST within the team.
The successful candidate will be encouraged and supported in further professional development, based on their needs and service objectives.
