Job summary We are excited to offer this opportunity to join our growingData Management Services team at Gloucestershire Integrated Care Board as aData Engineer.
This post sits within the Data Management Services team, a subteam of the larger Business Intelligence team, and will be reporting to theDeputy Data Services Manager.Are you ready totake on an exciting role where your data engineering skills will drive keyinitiatives and empower data-driven decisions?
We are looking for a DataEngineer who will play a vital role in building and optimizing datasystems, designing scalable pipelines, and delivering clean, reliable data tofuel our analytics and machine learning projects.As a Data Engineeron our team, youll work alongside data scientists, analysts, and otherengineers, creating and maintaining a data infrastructure that transforms rawdata into actionable insights.
From optimizing ETL processes to implementingdata quality checks, youll be the backbone of our data architecture, ensuringour systems are robust, secure, and ready to support our organisation.
Main duties of the job Build & Optimize: Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and ETL processes to transform raw data into powerful insights.Innovate & Automate: Create and implement scalable systems to support data flow from multiple sources, ensuring reliability and efficiency.Collaborate & Elevate: Work alongside data analysts and engineers to deliver customized data solutions that inform decision making across the NHS Gloucestershire system.Monitor & Assure Quality: Ensure data integrity with rigorous testing, validation, and monitoring practices that keep our data clean and trustworthy.

Integrate and assemble large, complex data sets that meet a broad range of business requirements.
Support the development of appropriate data architecture to enable the delivery of a high-quality Data Management service across the organisation and Gloucestershire system.
Support the implementation and development of the organisations Business Intelligence reporting solution, ensuring the culture of a self-serve environment is available for all staff.
Work with the organisations 3rd party data services provider, CSU, and other NHS organisations to ensure that data is correct and fit for purpose.Using helpdesk software, raising and answering tickets, such as Jira, TopDesk etc Provide support to Data Management Services on key projects.
Work with the organisations Digital Team in creating and maintaining our cloud infrastructure.
This post will be set within the BusinessIntelligence Department but will work collaboratively with the organisationsDigital Team and the Data Services provider.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Educated to degree level in a quantitative subject.
Demonstrate an understanding of datasets and data sources including the quality and reliability of the data.
Experience using relevant software including SQL, SSIS, and Power BI.
Experience in maintaining and developing data pipelines.
Understanding of the importance of data quality and the ability to resolve issues.
Experience of liaising with staff at all levels and being confident in working through organisation corporate issues where information is of influence.
Desirable Experience of continued professional development in specialist area.
Experience using software including Python and R. Experience of interpreting national policy for implementation.
Experience of cloud based computing and APIs.
Experience in implementing, managing and administrating data warehouse solutions.

Knowledge Essential Experience/understanding on ETL tooling including SSIS Understanding of data warehousing technology, data modelling and reporting solutions.
Desirable Understanding of GDPR and its relevance to this role Information Governance knowledge of Caldicott guidelines and Data Protection.
Understanding of NHS commissioning data.
Understanding of how NHS data is used to improve services across the NHS Gloucestershire system.
