The Tech org at OVO is entering an exciting growth phase, which includes hiring across all their data squads throughout the rest of 2024 and early 2025.
This includes a number of mid-senior level Data Engineers , who will help several key teams deliver sophisticated data-driven products which will support the company and its customers on the Path to Net Zero.
HOW YOULL FIT IN: As a Data Engineer at OVO, you could find yourself working in one of the following teams: Next Best Action: You will be part of a multi-disciplinary Data squad focusing on Decisioning as a product.
The team currently owns a decisioning platform and API supporting digital and contact centre customer interactions.
Operations AI: You will be part of an AI squad focusing on integrating predictive analytics and generative AI to enhance customer experience on the Path to Net Zero.
As a Data Engineer, you will play a key role in developing and maintaining data pipelines, powering a platform and API that support both digital and contact center customer interactions.
Customer Lifetime Value: As a member of a multi-disciplinary Data Science team, you will help in the development and improvement of sophisticated data and machine-learning products, all centred around maximising the OVO customer journey.
In all of these teams, the Data Engineer will work to advance OVOs AI-driven products, ensuring they are future-proof, scalable, and seamlessly integrated into decision-making workflows across the business—from C-suite to operational teams.
Ultimately, your work will help drive sustainable solutions and empower customers in their journey toward Zero Carbon.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE: Designing, building and maintaining scalable data solutions, following good software engineering practices Establishing and advocating for good engineering standard methodologies within the team, such as IaC, automated testing, adequate monitoring and alerting, CI/CD standard processes for production releases Raising the standards of existing codebases following good software engineering principles and educating non-engineers in such practices Perform both batch and real-time data transformations, ensuring data is accurate, efficient, and readily available for analysis From time to time, help build end-to-end PoCs or prototypes, including basic web apps or basic frontend integrations ESSENTIAL SKILLS & EXPERIENCE Passion for crafting scalable, resilient solutions, and an eagerness to drive the team's technology choices and architectural decisions A strong backend and data engineering background, with the ability to occasionally carry out full stack development for PoC/prototypes Skilled in designing, building, monitoring, and managing large-scale data products, pipelines, tooling, and platforms Deep understanding of the best engineering practices, including containerisation and CI/CD Experience with streaming and batch ETL solutions using data processing tools like Kafka, Pub-Sub, VertexAI, BigQuery, Dataform, Postgres, or comparable technologies Hands-on experience developing cloud-based solutions across GCP, AWS, or Azure, with a command of Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform and cloud compute platforms like GCP Cloud Run Excellent command of at least one programming language recognised in the Data Engineering community; primarily Python and SQL Experience or desire to work on MLOps, Model Training, Evaluation and Deployment You're accustomed to working in a multi-disciplinary agile delivery setting with frequent release cycles, with experience in pair programming, TDD, CI/CD, and strategic deployment approaches – where technology decisions are not rare If you tick most but not all of the requirements, OVO would still love to hear from you COMPENSATION/BENEFITS: Competitive salary range of £55-85K (dependent on experience and seniority) On-target bonus of 15% 34 days holiday including bank holidays Pension matching up to 5% Flexible working as standard Enhanced parental leave policies 9% cash flex fund which can be used towards a variety of benefits (pension top-up, annual leave top-up, gym memberships, healthcare cash plan, workplace ISA, etc.)
