Description The role of Deputy Business Unit Director has responsibility for driving financial performance, capacity planning & recruitment, people management and engagement carrying responsibility for 1-2 teams.
You will be responsible for achieving financial, technical and people management targets whilst ensuring Client SLA's and internal Objectives, benchmarks and KPI's are delivered for their team and their reporting lines.
You will work collaboratively to support our ambition to be the market leader in of counter fraud services.
To maximise financial performance and to implement best working practices to improve profitability on both fixed fee and hourly rate work.
To drive capacity planning to ensure that capacity is at optimum to enable client service delivery of SLAs and KPIs.
Including working collaboratively with our Talent Resource Partner Embed a positive culture of team and individual engagement.
Support delivering retention strategies and deliver positive ENPS results.
To be an engaging and innovative operational leader.
To deliver consistent people management across the team, in line with our processes and policies.
Alongside the Quality and Technical Leads drive the team to deliver quality standards, excellent client care and continual technical development.
Key Responsibilities Financial Performance  Deliver financial performance by instilling good working practices within the teams, including management of WIP, client account and office account payments Deliver profitability of fixed fees, through effective processes and embedding best practice file handling  Drive the financial performance of handlers across the business unit Maintain close budgetary control – track financial performance against budget and identify opportunities to exceed and identify risks using the levers available to you to achieve budget Deliver financial forecasting considering all impacting factors, such as attrition, absence, holidays, recruitment, cost Support the Operations Director with pricing.
Capacity Planning  Review incoming and outgoing volumes at team and client level against forecast at least monthly and feed into a capacity plan to inform recruitment Respond quickly to changes, including resignations and volumes.
Reporting risks to maintaining capacity at optimum to the BUD and OD Drive recruitment strategies in the teams – working collaboratively with our Talent Resource team Recruit talent with the right skills set and cultural fit for the team whilst at the same time managing cost Clear and prompt communication at all levels where capacity is impacted.
Prepare and deliver plans to recovery back into optimum capacity as quickly as possible Quality & Technical Delivery  Deliver the audit process across the teams and deliver a team structure and environment that facilities continuous technical improvement on audit.
Demonstrated by green internal and client audit outcomes.
Review current processes to identify opportunities to improve quality and technical delivery.
In conjunction with Lead Lawyers, identify potential risk and solutions to avoid or mitigate reputational damage and indemnity exposure, in conjunction with the Quality Lead.
In conjunction with the Lead Lawyers, Technical and Quality Leads deliver a quality service that meets client KPIs, SLAs and client care expectations.
Embed technical on boarding and frameworks in the teams and manage the team to engage and complete training, including managing completion through Thrive.
Leadership and People development  Create an environment with positive team and individual engagement.
Improve and deliver engagement results.
Deliver effective communication in the teams at all levels, including team meetings, monthly one to ones and annual performance reviews.
Where necessary deliver and follow performance management procedures.
Ensure Counter Fraud Team Leaders are working collaboratively and consistently.
In conjunction with Quality Leads embed the competency Development Framework and Career Pathway for Counter Fraud.
Develop and maintain a succession plan supported by effective PDPs for all roles in your remit, and for your Team Leaders.
Client Management & Growth  Deliver a team capable of scalability to quickly respond to growth opportunities.
Support the SLT with identifying growth opportunities for existing clients and new clients via implementation of strategic initiatives.
Technology   Work with the Technical Lead and product owners to pilot, test, and where appropriate implement the technology products into operational teams, including Lauri CS, Sonic, DTection and AI.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise Be an experienced Team Leader within a legal environment.
A track record of results in driving and improving the service delivery of a team.
Experience of working collaboratively with key and senior stakeholders to facilitate a team delivering financial, quality and engagement metrics.
Experience of leadership and management where influencing skills and political and emotional astuteness will be important attributes.
Ability to deliver financial targets, including profitability management of fixed fees.
Preparation financial forecasts and budgetary planning.
Analytical skills that can be used to review and improve financial performance and client service and reduce risk.
Ability to manage capacity, including capacity planning and management of new starters and leavers to ensure quality delivery is not impacted.
A track record of building and maintaining Client relationships.
Able to communicate effectively at all levels, both internally and externally, and build effective working relationships  Ability to recognise own knowledge and development gaps and to take proactive steps to upskill.
