Job Opportunity: Step 2 Counsellor (Band 5)Location: HMP Millsike (York)Organisation: Rethink Mental Illness in partnership with TEWV and Humber Teaching NHS Foundation TrustSalary: £29,970 - £36,483 per annum (Band 5)Hours: Full-time, 37.5 hours per weekContract: PermanentAbout the RoleRethink Mental Illness is seeking a dedicated Step 2 Counsellor to join our integrated mental health team at HMP Millsike.
You'll deliver brief intervention counselling (6-8 sessions) for individuals experiencing depressive symptoms, such as those related to bereavement or life adjustments, in line with IAPT guidelines.
Working closely with a multidisciplinary team, you will also support broader mental health initiatives within the prison, ensuring continuity of care and collaborating with professionals for a high standard of mental health support.Key ResponsibilitiesConduct assessments, facilitate person-centred counselling, and evaluate outcomes using clinical measures.Ensure effective referral management and record-keeping, safeguarding client confidentiality at all times.Work in partnership with other mental health and care teams to maintain a stepped care approach and support continuous professional development.Qualifications & SkillsDiploma in Therapeutic Counselling (or equivalent) with BACP accreditation eligibility.Experience delivering counselling in an IAPT setting, ideally with experience in stepped care models.Strong interpersonal skills and knowledge of mental health assessment, IT systems, and clinical data management.Desirable: Experience working with offenders or in prison settings, and knowledge of complementary therapy modalities.Why Join Us?At Rethink, we are passionate about improving lives for those severely affected by mental illness.
