Job summary Weare looking for a Cook to join our friendly catering team based at the Hospice.Youwill be responsible for the food preparation, cooking and serving of all mealsfor patients, staff and visitors.

Through medicine and therapy, they ease pain; give life purpose andmake life liveable.
Last year the charity supported over 4,000 patients andtheir families.The hospices work is centred on the individualsneeds and they provide specialist support wherever it is needed; whether thatis in the home, another setting in the community, in hospital or in the hospiceitself.
Support is provided to patients and their families via the InpatientUnit, the Community Care Unit including outpatients clinics, home visits fromthe community nursing, medical or therapy team, the OneCall 24/7 telephonehelpline and bereavement support.In 2023, St Elizabeth Hospice merged with EastCoast Hospice to form a collaborative approach to developing achievable andsustainable specialist palliative care services for people living in the GreatYarmouth and Waveney area.
Job description Job responsibilities JOB SUMMARYTo assist the Senior Cook in leading the team to ensure that highstandards in food quality, safety and service are maintained at all times.Responsible for the preparation of food to the highest quality and to ensure the higheststandards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen and dining areas.PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIESResponsiblefor all food preparation, cooking and serving to the highest standard of allmeals in the hospice, ensuring efficiency and consistent high quality is met atall timesLiaisewith clinical team on a daily basis regarding special requirements and dietaryneeds and nutrition of patients.Adheringto food hygiene regulations, Safer Food Better Business, HACCP and COSHH withinthe hospice kitchen on a daily basis.Workingto a set timing and sequence of operations required to meet serving times andpatient requirements.AssistingSenior Cook in creating new and innovative menus for patients, employees andvisitors.Towork with the Senior Cook on new ideas and costings for the cafe and front ofhouseAsfar as possible to respond immediately to patient food requests.Tooperate various machines and equipment in relation to the preparation of foodand cleaning of the kitchen and dining areas.Toreplenish vending machine as required.Toensure daily cleaning schedules are completed and signed.
Ensuring a high levelof hygiene and cleanliness is maintained at all times by self and team daily.
Reportinginconsistencies to Senior Cook.
Inthe absence of the Senior Cook to be responsible for cash handling and tillreconciliation.Toundertake training as required.Handlingall donated food produce, being adaptable and creative with menus to ensurethere is minimum waste.Dailymanagement of stock levels within the hospice kitchens.
Inthe absence of the Senior Cook to be responsible for placing all orders forconsumables and supplies for the catering department, following procurementprocedures and policies in place.
Achieving the best price vs quality.
Toreceive and check deliveries, ensuring the correct storage of all provisionsand to delegate such duties as appropriate.AssistingSenior Cook with any external catering requirementsEnsuringat all times that all allergens and special diets are adhered to, andcompliance procedures are being followed, for example allergen labels correctand in place.To recognise indications of staff stressand to facilitate staff support.Toparticipate in the induction of all new staff and volunteers as required.Torecognise the value of volunteer contribution and play an active part in theirsupport and development where appropriate.Toprovide cover to the team in the event of annual leave and sickness absence.Tobe the delegate in the absence of the Senior Cook.
EDUCATIONALRESPONSIBILITIESToparticipate in the Hospice education programme.Togive feedback from attended education programmes/study days.PERSONALDEVELOPMENTTodevise with the Hospitality Manager a personal development plan in line withthe Hospice objectives and personal needs.Tomaintain and increase personal professional skills.ORGANISATIONALRESPONSIBILITIESTowork at all times within the policies of the Hospice and act within Care Standardsat all times.Touphold the Hospice and individual team values at all times.Toensure effective use of resources.Torespect at all times the confidentiality of information covering patients,staff and volunteers.Toplay an active part in the development and maintenance of good relationshipswith all who have business with the Hospice.Topromote the Hospice philosophy of care towards patients, relatives andvisitors.Because of the nature of the Hospice andits work, the post holder may on occasion be asked to undertake other duties tohelp maintain our high standard of care.THIS JOB DESCRIPTIONIS NOT NECESSARILY EXHAUSTIVE AND MAY BE SUBJECT TO REVIEW BY THE MANAGER INCONJUNCTION WITH THE POSTHOLDER.
Person Specification Qualifications Essential Basic Food Hygiene certificate NVQ Level 1 or equivalent qualification or experience.
