Job Title: Controls Engineer Location: Edinburgh, Monday - Friday, 37 hours per week Role Overview: We are seeking a skilled Controls Engineer to join a dynamic team focused on designing electrical and control systems for hydrogen and renewable energy projects.
This role involves the design, configuration, testing, and commissioning of PLC-based control systems, as well as providing ongoing support and fault-finding services.
The successful candidate will collaborate closely with Mechanical and Process engineers throughout the design process, producing detailed system documentation, and engaging with various departments including Quality, Purchasing, and Production.
Key Responsibilities: Design electrical and control systems, including control networks, and specify associated hardware.
Contribute to the development of control software for energy systems.
Create HMI screens and other operator interfaces.
Produce essential project documentation, including Functional Design Specifications, FAT Procedures, IO lists, and more.
Conduct testing on control panels and control software.
Verify designs against builds, ensuring compliance with specifications.
Generate system drawings and update them throughout the project lifecycle, issuing "As-built" drawings to customers upon completion.
Collaborate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of components and explore new technologies to improve efficiency in the design and production process.
Main Deliverables: Collaborate with Mechanical and Process engineers to define system operating and control philosophies.
Assist in producing required project documentation.
Participate in HAZOPs and system safety analysis.
Design electrical systems in compliance with the ATEX Directive (desirable).
Develop Operator Control Interfaces (desirable).
Support Pre-FAT testing and commissioning activities.
Qualifications and Experience: Degree in software, computing, electrical, or a related field.
Basic experience in electrical and control system design.
Knowledge of motor control and associated methodologies.
Competence in specifying cables based on system needs.
Familiarity with system testing and commissioning.
Experience in supporting senior stakeholders (desirable).
Track record of meeting deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Experience in office organization and responsibility for deadline compliance.
Skills: Solution-oriented mindset with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Ability to prioritize and manage multiple deadlines effectively.
Foundational experience with Siemens PLCs and HMIs.
Understanding of various control system communication protocols.
Strong Microsoft Office Suite skills.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Self-sufficient, adaptable, and eager to learn on the job.
