Consultant Trauma & Orthopaedic Surgeon - Revision Hip & Knee Surgery

Job summary North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to recruit a dynamic and enthusiastic consultant in orthopaedic surgery.
This is a permanent substantive replacement post to provide delivery of a comprehensive trauma and orthopaedic service.
The successful candidate will be encouraged to develop subspecialist interests to reflect their particular interests, complement the specialist interests of the existing consultants, and the needs of the trust.The post is based in the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and the West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.
The Cumberland Infirmary is the hub for all major trauma surgery.
Main duties of the job The successful applicant will be required to demonstrate a firm commitment to the principles of Clinical Governance including:- Developing and maintaining appropriate systems and practice to ensure effective clinical audit.Attending and contributing to the Trust Clinical Governance Programmes.Ensuring that staff within your area of responsibility are aware of the Trust's Risk Management Strategy, and that it is implementedParticipating in the Trust Clinical Incident Reporting System.Developing a programme of personal continuing medical education and professional development in accordance with the recommendations of the relevant Royal Colleges.
The Trust will expect and support the post holder to maintain professional expertise through attending meetings and courses.During the early part of their career the appointee will be supported by a named mentor (senior consultant).An interest in research and teaching is expected with participation in projects and courses to enhance the standing role of the department within the Trust.

Person Specification Essential Essential FRCS (Tr and Orth) or qualification of equivalent level Full registration with the General Medical Council Fully registered on the UK General Medical Council's Specialist Register via CCT or CESR (CP) - proposed CCT/CESR (CP) date must be within 6 months of interview; CESR; European Community Rights Candidates must have evidence of recent approved fellowship training in revision knee and hip surgery Candidates must have evidence of recent research activity in management of patients requiring lower limb - hip and knee revision surgery Recent training and experience in general orthopaedic trauma is essential Excellent communication skills and team working with patients, colleagues, managers and other staff Knowledge of Audit process & Clinical Governance Ability to organise workload efficiently A special interest to complement that of the existing post-holders, however, an interest in lower limb - hip and knee revision surgery.
and general trauma would be welcomed High level of clinical experience and competence in Trauma and Orthopaedics Ability to apply research outcomes to clinical problems Commitment to continuing medical education, appraisal and clinical governance.
Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team Enquiring, critical approach to work Able to be based within 30 minutes of the base hospital Ability to travel to fulfil the requirements of the post with a flexible approach to working Desirable Other relevant medical and non-medical training/degree Other relevant postgraduate qualification Proven track record in undertaking research projects.
Experience in district general hospital practice.
Publications in peer reviewed journals Experience of teaching to undergraduates and postgraduates and members of multi disciplinary team Willingness to undertake additional professional responsibilities at local, regional and national levels.
